As many people are aware, Market Data has returned to a subscription based service beginning March 18, 2011 around 5PM EST. We stopped updating ebay's historical pricing in January 2010 when we were asked to once again pay for their data. Thanks to the requests of many CAF members we will once again start purchasing ebay Market Data, but that is also why we have to charge for this service.

Here is an overview of how Marketdata will function after next Friday, March 18th.

1 - Not logged in Visitor. Show 3 months of data. No prices for any auction house.
2 - Logged in CAF Member. Not CAF a Premium Member. Show 3 months of data. No ebay prices. Pricing for all other auction venues.
3 - Logged in CAF Member. Is a CAF Premium Member. Show 6 months of data. Prices for all venues.
4 - Logged in CAF Member. Can be a Premium Member or not. Is a Marketdata Subscriber. Show all data and all prices.

eBay Auctions

Yes, that's 1,000,000 (one million!) auction results, whose total sale value is over $130,000,000 US. We have most images for Heritage's auctions, and are slowly increasing the number of images available on ebay's auctions. Subscribers to Market Data can upload their own images to help us increase the value of the service.

Because only paid Market Data subscribers will have full access to all Market Data, we encourage those members who choose not to subscribe to also register for an account with Heritage Auctions to access all of their sales history.

I have to give a shout out - and I hope you all do as well - to Brian Howard Schutzer (Owner of Brianhowardart & Neat Stuff Collectibles). When all this discussion started about getting Marketdata on CAF again, Brian was one of the first people to email me offering his support. In the end, Brian offered to purchase the 2010 ebay marketdata for CAF to help get us current. I really cannot thank him enough for helping us get all the data we missed when our contract with ebay lapsed at the end of 2009.

Because of Brian's support, we've decided to offer Marketdata for $50/year to start. I would like to think that we will have enough support from our membership to cover the annual cost of the Marketdata. I appreciate everyone suggesting that they wanted to pay more than that to get us going. It was your encouragement that got us interested in revisiting this with ebay, and CAF is happy to host this service for our membership.
