This September, Huberty & Breyne proudly edits the French version of Dave McKean's highly anticipated book Thalamus, part one. It is a testament to a singular artist's ability to see beyond the ordinary, to capture the essence of our inner worlds, and to translate those visions into something both strange and familiar, often unsettling, yet always sublime. Through his words, McKean reflects on his creative evolution, offering insights into the alchemy of imagination that has fuelled his unparalleled body of work.
On this occasion, Huberty & Breyne hosts a retrospective exhibition of McKean's work in Brussels. It is a journey through his very creative process, one that has evolved over decades and mediums. It unveils the diversity of his genius; from hauntingly beautiful graphic novel original art excerpts to evocative photographs.
In the labyrinth of visual storytelling, few have navigated its intricate corridors with as much mastery, inventiveness, and depth as Dave McKean. He creates worlds where boundaries between illustration, photography, film, and graphic novels dissolve. His works are not mere images but windows into the subconscious, each piece pulsating with meaning, emotion, and an ever-present tension between the dreamlands and the realm of reality.
This exhibition invites us to experience not only the visual beauty and complexity of McKean's art but also the inner workings of his mind, as Thalamus reveals the artist's meticulous process, his reflections, his dreams, and his obsessions. For those who have followed McKean's journey over the years, and those encountering his work for the first time, this retrospective promises an encounter with a visionary whose influence continues to shape the landscape of contemporary art and storytelling.
