Giving credit where it's due, the blacks are beautifully spotted. Stylistically speaking however, I agree with yours and everyone else's sentiments, John. But then that begs the question, why bother getting this one? ![]() Still, an interesting story and had hopes that I'd find other related pages. I did but, they sold for more than I wanted to pay so this might be headed to the For Sale bin. |

I think Alcala penciled this and maybe apllied 5 min worth of inks. Someone else did the rest. You can really see that in the way the woman is inked in the fifth panel - AA didn't use those kind of brushstrokes with his self-invented modified Chinese pen-brush. ![]() I don't think he did any inking or what little he did, was obliterated by who went over it. |

Kind of loose and the line widths are much heavier. Maybe someone in his studio did it during a crunch. Either way, this mystery will haunt you . ![]() If Alcala inked this, he did it in the back of a van going back and forth over railroad tracks. |

The Bat-Man: First Knight #3 p.36 Owner: Ruben DaCollector Comment posted on 1/15/2025 This is such an incredible page as it stands, but the size of it must make it a requirement to see in person. Party at Rubens! Rarely, do artists get firearm depictions correct but not in this case. The details are spot on. The early Batman was opposite of what he is known for. He originally carried a Colt .45. It sure would be nice to see him burn off a 50 round drum in a following panel but this is good enough. This is grail material. |

Peter Elson! Where the Evil Dwells Owner: Diana Dream Comment posted on 12/21/2024 Yes, it is goauche. You are absolutely right about Elson's work. It has a transcendent quality to it. Peter thought of each painting as a special part of him. Were it not for his untimely passing, he never would have sold a single of his works. It is a great privelige to own one of his original works. Your piece is fantastic! |

I like the building crescendo that intensifies as you continue reading down the page until the horrible twist is finally revealed! Interesting too, that I've never heard of this artist until now. I can only assume he was one of those few select artists who broke into the America comics industry around this time, had a cup of coffee, and then left again. Nice stuff! ![]() Thanks Ruben. He didn't do much and even less, all on his own. Most work was in the Horror genre. It's a shame because he had a unique style and great command of shading. Seeing that he still lives in the Philippines, my guess is that immigrating to the U.S. didn't happen and so his career in comics here, just never took off. Here is what I know... Gamboa was most active in the US comics scene between 1973 and 1977, during which he worked exclusively on DC’s horror anthology comics. He is crediting with penciling and/or inking 14 DC horror shorts in all. |

BEST. COVER. EVER. - Chuck Norris! (1987) Owner: Steve Kro Comment posted on 8/9/2024 My Tae Kwon Do instructor was the Korean National Champion and a 9th degree Black Belt. The Bat-Man: First Knight #1 p.40 - Mazzucchelli-esque! Owner: Ruben DaCollector Comment posted on 8/7/2024 The architecture, darkness and somber mood of this work is perfect for Perkins' magical, otherwordly talent. As a hard-core Batman-iac, I am definitely not fond of his protrayal of Batman with the long ears in other pages, but Perkins once again, has shown that his style is immediately recognizable, and his dramatic inking looks like a photo out of Ansel Adams portfolio. Great one, Ruben! |

Adam Hughes--Catwoman #61 Cover (2007) Owner: Bill J Comment posted on 8/5/2024 Whoah! Missed this when you added it!! My phone almost ran out of memory to get to the end of the comments. I don't know how long it took to ink this but judging from the cross-hatching, WEEKS!!! It's INCREDIBLE! And none of it shows in the published piece which is why these originals are so impressive! |
