Love it!  As you stated, Al in his prime was the best of the best.

One of the most under rated series of the 1980's.  Claremont = good.  Bolton = good.  Not sure how this series flew underneath everyone's radar, but it still holds up well today.

The Oksner inks really shine on this page, and are very evident on Supergirl's face.  He had such a fantastic ability to illustrate women.

A few things about this piece...I am the original consignor and worked out the details with Dave.  This was actually the 3rd or 4th time he did this Frazetta homage painting (once, with Cerebus on a mound of dead Smurfs).

Secondly, it is not the largest Cerebus original illo or painting...not even close.

Thought you might want some background on this piece.  I am the original owner of the piece.  I consigned Bill to create an image of Elektra against the backdrop of the classic Moon Knight #23 cover.  Bill did a great job with the Elektra figure & background, however the initial colour palette was a bit light and I asked him to darken the tones, which he did very successfully. 

Smack, Smack, Kunk, Tok...this page is worth the price of admission just for the sound effects!

Dave is an incredible talent, so much so that very few artist/writers could have pulled off this page as successfully as Dave.  It should also be noted that Dave has also won awards for his lettering, which was brilliant!

I think what's kind of interesting about this comic that very few people seem to know about is that this was intended to be the 1st Prestige Format book publsihed by DC, but Dick Giordano, who was in charge of these special projects instead decided to give Miller's DKR that honorific.  And the rest, as they say, is history.

Nice convention sketch!  If I recall correctly, it took Dale approximately 1.5 hours to do.

I'm not an artist, but I can tell that this page has so much going for it with regard to technique and method and every panel is a treat for the eyes. I can stare at this page for hours!

It's been 7 years since I posted my praise for this cover, and I still think its the greatest piece of OA on CAF!
