Excellent design choices, this a really great rendering!

Each panel is distinctly rendered, wonderful art, composition and inks both. Didn't realize the FF had a relationship this early with the X-Men, Human Torch is a real bonus.

More Perez ants! Who knew that was such a thing! Great page with I think the only appearance of the female Dr. Spectrum of Squadron Sinister. Not too subtle wordplay about hitting her with squadron after squadron of ants...

Strong panels throughout. Love the bottom left, with the darkened figures of the assembled Avengers. Great acquisition!

I remember not being such a fan either, but I also remember that Larsen was somewhat hurt by the negative reviews - the Savage Dragon look and feel not translating so well into the Marvel universe - but if their was a book that could make it work it would be Defenders - and it can be appreciated as pure artistic expression and in that light it works in its own right.

I know I never read this issue, but this page makes me sit up and take notice! There is a lot of Silver Age goodness I might have missed! Gorgeous splash!

An awesome piece from a memorable arc - I always secretly hoped for Modred to join the Avengers - as a mystic I liked him much more than Dr Druid. In this issue we are getting close to the bottom of the origin of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch - an arc building since their first appearance! Congratulations!

Zodiac was one of my favorite teams and Cornelius Van Lunt as Taurus was one of the unifying aspects...

Any page from this issue is iconic! Great "transformation" sequence of the Angel, great view of Cyclops. Early Marvel was blessed with the imagination of Kirby who brought these great concepts to life! Glad you are having fun on this crazy collecting journey!!

I love the way this page makes me feel - the hopefulness of Christmas, peace and love. So ironic that Silver Surfer was portrayed in the Defenders as almost a messianic character, given his history with Galactus.

Mark, You know I've had my eye on it for a while .. glad to finally be able to pull the trigger! You've even seen my three toed Hulk, lol!

This was an issue that Harlan Ellison plotted and Roy scripted. It was transitional after the epic Kree-Skrull War and Olympus arcs and showed how a skilled science fiction writer could elevate the medium. The Avengers were almost background characters to this powerful story. I admit I was more than a little confused as an 11-year old! 

Love the nostalgia, and this is a fantastic page. My first book off the spinner rack was Avengers 98 - within two years I had a complete collection all the way back to Avengers 1, I was so hooked! Grim Reaper's costume in this first appearance was so gawdy, but I loved it!
