Jocasta is one of my favorite characters from this era, not just as a concept, but because of Perez' rendering. He has a way of making all armored characters come to life. Congratulations!

Kieron Dwyer was an underrated Avengers artist imho. He put a lot of passion into his work, always, and it shows, like here.

Love Perez' Iron Man with the little gleem off his armor - wonderful page from a strange and disturbing issue!

Such a powerful DPS - following closely on the heals of the Kree-Skrull War and Olympus sagas, this once again solidified Avengers as the center of the MCU, with the X-Men foes taking center-stage.

Love the half splash, and the Black Knight in the last two panels is a real bonus! Avengers 69-71 was probably my favorite arc of the first 100 issues. 

Great add Kirk! The splashes by Brown certainly conveyed the majesty of this cross-over!

Delicious page!! You can feel the radiation coming off the Radioactive Man and those Black Knight panels are a joy!

John could even make a board meeting look dramatic! Love it!

Mark, glad CAF featured this page. I never had or read that issue. I had chills looking at those Gwen panels, knowing what is to come years later.  I really enjoy the pacing and anticipation of the whole page, and of course the art is beautiful...

Patrick, thanks for this comment! I maybe love the DPS in Avengers 100 by Barry Smith even more, so it made me think - what do these pages have in common? They both set a mood, using the DPS to do so - the vastness of Kang's court and influence in this page and the somber British country side in Avengers 100. Both are the calm before the storm. In both, the characters are simply standing and interacting, not in some frenetic battle scene filling every inch. Emotions between the characters are evident, here with Hank and Jan and in the Avengers 100 the quiet triangle between Wanda, her brother and the Vision. Both, majestic!

Love love LOVE the drama in that last panel!!!  Somehow I feel this very early "Sal" was amongst his best work! 

Truly historic - the story reverberates even in today's comics ... and the love of the creators for these characters shows. 

This is a definitive page from that important series! Beautifully rendered, and reminds us of the brilliant talent lost last year....

A very special period for the Avengers - loved the tie-in between GA Whizzer and the history of Wanda and Pietro - continuing the theme of deepening the links in the marvel universe

You are right about me being fortunate. I grew up in that era when Perez started on Avengers then moved to DC to do JLA and Teen Titans. The prospect of the Avengers JLA crossover had me and probably every other fanboy on the edge of my seat... the cancellation was heartbreaking. Seeing this piece come up at auction was a dream come true and I couldnt resist. Last year my heart was broken again when we lost George...

What a beautiful bromance these two had! And it's easy to miss all the wonderful detail in both the writing and the art! George nails NYC vibe of that time -  stacks of garbage bags piled up under the lampposts on the lower left, for example, lol. Congrats!

Very nice, of course,  but this is the first time I'm really noticing the dialogue in that last panel - hysterical! The Avengers have a two-seater meeting chair at their meeting table! 

This was the very beginning (IMHO) of the redefinition of Batman as a fearful creature of the night - consider 1968 was just a very short time following the Batman TV series with its campy style.

My favorite team after the Avengers, and I enjoy Land's art in general, especially his happy women! This was an unexpected appearance of the Squadron and I'm happy to display it here on CAF!
