Thanks Davide. I was about the same age when the first series came out. I read it a few years ago and it is still raw, visceral and stunning. Still shocking even by today's standards, maybe more so. Chaykin was always ahead of his time. The new series isn't shaping up to be as classic or groundbreaking, but still great art and different than anyone else is doing. No one does it like Chaykin.

Davide, Well, your beautiful piece was the inspiration for this. I saw it and emailed Michael and asked if he'd do one for me. He agreed but didn't want to repeat the design, so he came up with a new one. Your Vampi is gorgeous, congratulations and thanks for posting it - I may not have asked for mine otherwise!

This is beautiful - Sanjulian did the same piece for me in the same timeframe. I was impressed by how much it resembled the original. Thanks! Yes, frustrating, but to be clear, I'm not mad at him or anything. Just hope his schedule clears up and he finds time to complete her!

I loved the prelim, my only problem was that without the costume, it didn't really feel like Vampi. I like how he worked out the empty costume! A long journey, happy to finally have it!

I do too! Back in 2006 he wasn't really sketching at Mid Ohio. I asked for a sketch of Tesla and he said sure. And then I said, "I'd love to see you do a Vampirella" and he kind of laughed and shrugged it off. I didn't pursue it because he wasn't really sketching. But in Cincinnati, he was sketching and was more than happy to do her. I love how he gave it his feel - unmistakably Chris!

Hah, I did get to meet him, but none of those guys is me! That lucky guy somehow got a sweet Cap from Jim. This was the first con that Jim had art with him in a long time. He had a nice Cap head sketch (inked, $250) and a gorgeous, bigger, dynamic Nick Fury (also inked, $2000 or so). I almost jumped on the Cap because it was so affordable, but Spurlock bought it at 2 a.m. before any of us normal folks were anywhere close to having a shot at it. Ah, well.

He really is. I mean, I thought that going in, but after hearing how he got started, his experiences with Stan Lee, Wally Wood, all the early comic guys...and hearing his exploits as a motorcycle rider, magician, escape artist, etc...yeah, the guy is a titan. Still has a grip of steel and has enough vigor to make you think he could tear you limb from limb...but could not have been nicer to every single person that day. Awesome.

Thank you! I got lucky, he said it might be months, then a window opened up unexpectedly. I knew what i wanted, he knew the character and vibe, and it just clicked. Check in with him, I would love to see more commissions from him!
