A very happy accident but, regardless, a fine piece of cartooning from Van Sciver.

Hampton, like his other painterly contemporaries like Muth and Williams, seem underrated now relative to the splash they made in the late 80s and early 90s. There's a reason Hampton was offered projects like Books of Magic and his own issue of Solo. You took a gamble on this but given Hampton's skill there was little doubt he'd deliver. This piece shows he hasn't lost any of his capabilities as an artist. Congratulations. I now need to track down that issue of Solo!

One of my favorite new series of recent years and Greg and Fake are two of nicest cartoonists around. 

An underappreciated star from the world of '90s alternative comics at her best. I should get around to posting my page from her Meat Cake series one of these days. 

Hanselmann's cartooning with these characters is so good whether it's painted color or looser linework. 

Bonus Roy Cowboy appearance in 1990.

I'll never read an issue of Iron Man again but, artistically, the book looks like it's in good hands. I used to think it was special when Tony built a stealth armor (issue 152) or an armor for low Earth orbit flights but a magic-impervious armor? That's something.

So wrong it's right! 

Lovely lovely lovely. JLGL had a gift for making superpowers characters feel like they were living and breathing people.

Definitely my favorite of the artists who drew Venom in his earliest stories.

I should've gotten M. Fiffe to do one of the Copra characters when I commissioned him. A missed opportunity given how well your commission turned out.

Truman's a better artist now than he was then, as this recreation shows, but I would love to see a version of this with the flatter, vibrant colors from the original cover.

Gorgeous and vibrant. Everything that we've come to expect from Manix. I'd love to see someone commission him to recreate a full book and reinterpret it in his own style. 

Congratulations, Brett. Never too late to start collecting artwork from this groundbreaking series and you've made a great start.

Great museum too!

Read the recently released Dalgoda Omnibus and I was reminded how delightful it was at the time. This cover definitely reflects how gifted an artist Fujitake was, especially on this series.

Inspired commission subject but it works. Dan did a fantastic job. 

Wonderful homage. I like the juxtaposition in style between the horse, with its more Miller-esque style, and the more cartoony rider. Skillfully done.

This was, I thought, the best of the recent covers offered by Gilbert. Congrats, Liam.

Pope is one of the best-image-makers of recent years as this piece attests. Can't believe I didn't see this when you posted! 

Striking color work. I'm curious which media she uses. Regardless,  very compelling depiction that could easily be a loading screen for the game.

Prime Baker work. Still great now, of course, but this book on top of his Shadow work knocked my socks off at the time.

Love seeing Bagge art posted on CAF. I believe this is the last issue before it switched to an annual format. 

Striking linework, especially in the hair and vegetation. FFVII was one of the games I always regret not playing when I was a more active gamer. 

It's not "on-model" for Dr. Doom but this should BE the model for Dr. Doom. 

I remember this issue fondly as well. Not my favorite of 1988 but that's only because it marked the ending of an era when Maguire was phasing out of the art chores, to be replaced by Ty Templeton. That said, it was still prime JLI.

This book had some special runs and Quitely's art was one of the reasons I didn't drop the book after Ellis and Hitch left. Congrats!

Scioli has these for sale at conventions, I believe. I think he might be digital only these days so to have a piece like this is rare.

Sorry, it was not a pre-OAX video but one of the ones done during the show. Here's the clip. Uko cites Michelangelo, Frazetta, Byrne, Stroman, and Patrick Nagel.

This Uko Smith piece looks great on the scan and looked even better when I saw it at the OAX auction. All of the Uko's influences are apparent but it doesn't seem like he's overly influenced by any one of hte artists he cited in his recent CAF interview. A real harmonious artistic blend.

Very memorable piece from Rude, when I was looking at nearly everything he produced, Nexus or otherwise. Seeing this piece inspired me to pick up a Rude piece from this era!
