It's strips like these that made 2000 AD & the Megazine the best European comic publication well into the mid-90s (Metal Hurlant ceased publication in 1987). "Be afraid, be very afraid" were the opening lines of his XX Nemesis - Deathbringer video. Thank you for posting.

I was following this item on Heritage closely, and while it ended up going for much more than I could afford, it's still a real steal in regard to the quality of these pages. Congratulations on this marvelous acquisition.

Amazing piece of history!

The painted color was all photographed from blue lines. These are indeed amazing, enough so that they pop up on their own in French OG auctions, not unlike Steve Oliff's Akira in the US. Once in a great while, the page and the blue line are offered together, but alas, that wasn't the case here. 

Can't tell you how much I am gleefully enjoying your 1987 bonanza. It's the last year I was all-in, before taking a decade-long break from boy/adventure comics. Wonderful nostalgic pick-up.

Reading these weakly was a trip. Alongside Kaz's Underworld. A high point of American comic strips that has been left out of the history books.

A perfect page. Why POWR MASTRS is not one of the most universally revered comics of the late '00 is beyond me.  

A little thing I wrote for a magazine almost ten years ago:

"One of the core PictureBox cartoonists, C.F. (Christopher Forgues), brings together qualities that are not supposed to coexist. His ongoing series Powr Mastrs defies definition: It is at once an adventure comic and a sequence of seemingly unconnected surrealist reveries. Deceptively simple in appearance, it has the intensity of a self-taught visionary’s work. Simultaneously, Powr Mastrs is engorged with the history of comics. For example, C.F. makes the most outlandish events seem plausible by maintaining internally coherent design quirks throughout all layers of the worlds he depicts, in a manner reminiscent of Spider-Man cocreator Steve Ditko’s early-’60s work, and he speeds up time with a kinetic energy that recalls Japanese author Katsuhiro Otomo, or arrests it in a metaphysical stillness that evokes the work of French fantasy master Moebius. Yet these heterogeneous influences never register as erudite quotations. Rather, one almost feels as if C.F. were sharing his excitement with his audience in real time and in his own completely idiosyncratic language. The result is magic."

Perfect Regé Jr page. "Boys" became one of my favorite book when it cam out. Still consider it an all-time classic. And "Diana" remains my favorite indy take on Wonder Woman (more so than Gilbert Hernandez's). Regé remains criminally undersung.

Dear Marcus, yes, but it's too entangled in DC's current continuity and tone, and played too straight for my current taste. Was never a fan of the characters per se as of Ellis and Davis-Hunt's slightly off kilter take on them. And, was and still love Villalobos. Maybe the book will resurface one day ...

Was such a treat when Bond started working with Morrison at Vertigo, The invisibles is the book that got me back into Shonen, after years of reading exclusively "alt" stuff. Bond's Wired World, from Deadline magazine, was a cult series while I was in college in the late 80s. Can't figure out why it's never been reprinted... Found a few examples on CAF:

The passage between panel 1 and 2 and 3, from sexual self-assuredness to frightened timidity, is remarkable. But, most importantly, the passage between page one and two of the whole sequence, to introspection and quiet resolution, is simply marvelous.

Now the hard part: a single large frame or two separate frames hung close to each other ? Hint: whenever I picked one of those two options in the past, I've always regreted not doing the other way arround the second it came back from the framer ...

Quitely, Silvestri, etc. are uobviously great, but Kordey's gritty Corben-y issues remain ma favorites of Morrison's run.

Such a cult comic. Never seen any OA, anywhere, so this color guide will do. Actually like the cheap xerox & rough red marker, adds to the DIY punk feel 

My favorite Cain & Abel. Better than Wrightson. Better than Bissette /Totleben. Dead serious. 

I've often fantasized what character I would ask Michel Fiffe to draw if given an opportunity (as he doesn't sell his Copra pages). It would have to be an 80s DC character for sure. But none of what I've come up with so far is as perfect as this one. Garcia-Lopez's Dart. Once you see it, it becomes self-evident. Brilliant.
