I think there were 6 or more very fine plates (?) that never made it into the final book even though they would have made more than worthy additions.  There was a small book called The Lost Frankenstein Pages by Apple Press which printed those. I would dearly love to see a complete folio size edition with everything in it at last.  This is a really gorgeous piece and yes, it reminds me of Monet too.

Looks like an early titillation piece to me, possibly butterscotch? For my own part I thought his El Gaucho was brilliant.

Love Kev O'Neil. Such a brilliant and woefully funny cartoonist.  Something about him always reminds me of William Hogarth, particularly his 'rookery' plates.  It's not the style so much as the great love of 'characterisation' methinks.

A final 'lightbox sketch' by the look of it (just my opinion) as that's way too good to be just a prelim. Or is it just that its a Bolland!

I think this has real 'charisma.' A lovely 'old school' piece.

A really beautiful piece. I always thought Jaime Hernandez artwork looked like Alex Toth meets Archie Comics but perhaps thats superficial. I know there are many more elements at work in his style. It must have been gutting for him to have one of his heroes (Robert Crumb) put his artwork down as 'too cute' though.

And Crumb was right about that as well. His artwork does look 'cute.' But I like it anyway and maybe that's precisely why his work appeals to so many people anyway?  I still think he's a gorgeous cartoonist regardless.

Nice to have a Moebius! Such technical skill had he.

His impressionistic style was absolutely perfect for From Hell.

Loved Totlebens run on marvel aka miracle man. Clearly influenced by Dore and Finley though this piece reminds me more of a pogany painting. Nice!

First time I saw David Lloyds artwork was in a back strip he did for Hulk comic; Night Raven.  Loved his chiaroscuro and moody film noir lighting ever since.

I'm not 100 percent sure without going back and having a quick  'flick through' check of the book but I think this may be the first time the iconic graffitti V image appears in the book? I know there was an earlier V but this was in the fireworks when V blows the old bailey up. I'm pretty sure this is the first appearance of the spraypainted anarchic V symbol. I could be wrong though. Will check later.
