A terrific sketch and from the right vintage when Sandman was going strong as the flagship title of Vertigo. Bringing this image to today is quite poetic, like Hob Gadling seeing his friend once more after not seeing him for a century. ![]() Your comment is making me feel even more nostalgic! =) |

Beautifully designed! It looks so good when artists recognize using negative space for the white costumed Moon Knight! Very dynamic with the crescents in perspective. ![]() This artist is indeed quite brilliant at using negative space, I've seen that in his other works as well. |

Look at those feathers! The concentration on them doesn't waver and speaks to the effort put into where the real focus (Morpheus) is on this piece. ![]() The feathers, the hair, the details on the clothing... yes this definitely took a lot of effort. |

Morpheus [Sandman] II by Vũ Danh Owner: Aasemoon Comment posted on 10/19/2024
Marcus Wai said:
The thin pen line is magnificent. It has influences of what The Studio was doing back in the 70's. The hours of work this took make this something truly to behold! ![]() Aah exactly, that is a great point. I feel that this was a connection in the back of my mind I couldn't quite put my finger on, and now you've brought it to the fore. This artist's technique does indeed remind me of what The Studio was doing… it's somehow like combining BWS / Bernie Wrightson's fine details together with Jeffrey Jones' emotional evocativeness, and then putting all of that together with Vũ Danh's own very organic, very unique style [I mean look at what he's done with the gold leaf!!]. |

I like how he embellished Captain Haddock here. Positive public relations for robots this fall with a few franchises in theaters. With the current revival of Jonny Quest by Dyanmite Comics, Hempel and Wheatley's Comico run was also brought back into he spotlight! I really hope it'll be as good as it was in the era of this sketch! This was another one of those things I discovered a little late due to barely having been in this world during the original run. |

Morpheus [Sandman] by Renato Oak Owner: Aasemoon Comment posted on 8/23/2024
Marcus Wai said:
A fantastic supernatural touch with darkness in the sunken eyes! The feathery strokes on the suit represent Matthew and the hair style blending in with the swirls of magical energy is great too. The strong facial features in this form by Renato Oak has more depth than ever before. ![]() That's very true. I also feel that the facial features communicate a great deal of very complicated emotions. He seems despondent and more melancholic than usual. Perhaps how he would have been feeling near the end of the saga. |

Soothing and cool with the blue shading! I think it fits the role it plays in the Sandman quite well. =) |
