Fantstical feat of design!  Chilcott demonstrates the patience, skill, and concentration to pull this off!

Indeed he does. What's interesting is that the same artist can also switch to a far looser, far more expressionistic style!

Hempel stylized the art for Sandman, but Matthew is drawn in a realistic manner.  It is done to show how Sandman can be seen differently by different people.

That's a very interesting point, specially seeing that Marc has created many different versions of Morpheus, but his Matthew often looks the same! =)

Was this from one of her grab bags?  If so, very lucky pick, congrats!

I doubt it. This was gifted to me together with the newly released slipcase version of the books of Little Endless.

Definitely radical!  Four issues #0-#3 with no issue #4!  Definitely cashing in on the trends of the 90's.  A revisit of the character would be cool as he looks at our current internet as our DreamNet!

Oh wonderful that you're familiar with the character! =) Hey there was an issue #4 though, and then a standalone and then another set of 6 issues. And quite excitingly, one volume out of Mark's recent Nucleus X release was entirely dedicated to a new Radical Dreamer story [with a Mars crossover] so it's even been revisited! =D You have got to see the illustrations in the new volume... 😍

A date stamp might be cool though.  It makes the drawing look government endorsed and going through the mail is “the poor man's copyright.”  It doesn't really work that way though.

Aah I see what you mean. Though come to think of it I don't think I've seen those classical ink postal date stamps in a long long time!!

Great bonus!  The wear and tear of going through the mail adds character and age to the drawing.  For the an older character like the Golden Age Sandman, it works as part of the artistic process.

Hehe that's true, the creases do make it look more retro. I'm just glad no one has put a stamp or sticker or something on the envelope illustrations so far! =D

The thin lines are great!  You notice them first in the foliage, but then it is in the finer details of Black Panther as well.  It's a very old school way of illustration.

Oh that's a very interesting point! I've always felt that Garry's work has a Bronze Age flair to it. Now that you mention it, I realise that's partly it, the fine lines and details. They appear to have gained some prevalence during the Bronze Age, and then just slightly faded again.

Very nice character design to incorporate Dredd and African motifs.  The framing column gives a stylish look of the environment he inhabits and patrols.

Yes, I absolutely love Garry Wharton's backgrouds. He creates these very elaborate, very distinct scenes around characters. You should see the background he created for my winged Morpheus commission... =)

Craig is simply incredible with the human anatomy [among other things] and yes, his works resemble those of renaissance artists indeed! You should see the final piece too, it takes my breath away every time I look at it:

This is another severe case of the picture not doing the metallic ink justice [despite my best lens..]! The paper is translucent and up-close the colours almost sparkle! =)

Incredible piece by Hempel!  The curvy design for the cape and the Batman logo are very much of the time, but the theme patrolling at night and his washtone art are timeless.

What's interesting to me is what one notices when putting Hempel's works from different eras side by side. How as the style evolves, some elements keep reappering, like his way with the curvy lines. [He's my favourite visual artist so I stare at his stuff a lot.. =) ]

That's a great way of looking at it. In the story he's literally been devided to two versions of himself, the good and the evil.
