As John Romita once said, "Colan was an illustrator hiding in a comic book artist skin."  I have had the privilege of seeing many examples of Colan's raw pencil work and it is breathtaking.  In an era dominated by Kirby, Colan's pencil work was defiantly different.  Very nice ink work by Sinnott.  I think he might have been Colan's best inker.  He picks the best line without losing the vitality of the pencils.  The coloring is spot on for that era.  Really a beautiful page that anybody would be proud to have in their collection. Congrats !

Golden makes a variety of pastes that supplement their acrylic paint line.  I used their extra heavy paste to sculpt the lava.  Then I painted the lava in yellow first then in orange.

From a composition point of view for scenes like this, I favor Kirby's "Big O" layout.  All the characters overlap.  There isn't a character hanging out in space by themselves.  I used the Wasp figure as a way to connect the Giant Man figure to the Iron Man figure.  The left hand of the Iron Man figure overlaps with the Avengers logo too.  I feel the eye is guided to stay within the bounds of the group and not wander off the page.

Beautiful rendition of an all time great Kirby villain.  Very clear, crisp inking.  

I always was amazed how Joe's inking traveled.  Across papers in the US, this strip was printed at various sizes.  There was no standard size.  But it didn't matter if it was in a newspaper in Philadelphia, Chicago, or LA  The strip was always readable and clear.  Joe Sinnott sold more newspapers than any NYT columnist ever did by far.  What a pro !!  The best ever !!

Any time you can own an original Jusko, it immediately becomes the highlight of your collection.  Congratulations on owning this gem.

This is just a year and a half before Don passed.  And you see no deteriorization in ability at all.  Same consistent quality from the beginning of his career to its end.  I would have loved to see Frank Giacoia ink this.  Also either Breeding or Ordway.
