I choke up every time I recount meeting him. I got to speak to John for a good long time at his table in '23. 

I had brought a couple Astonishing X-Men covers for him to sign if I was luckly enough to catch him at his table. He wasn't taking remarques. He graciously signed the couple of books and we discussed Cyclops at length. He shared how much he adored Cyclops because he represents someone who always has to be in control because of his powers. Scott always has to manage his powers in a way other X-Men don't which makes him stronger than Wolverine (ha, take that everyone!).

Without knowing, he flipped to my favorite page in his run and talked about how much he tried to portray Cyclops' raw power. My OA grails are the two pages he was giving me the rundown on there and then. 

I told him how much I loved Cyclops and he went through some of my commissions on my phone, he really liked Darryl Young's cover recreation. While I took back my phone, he took one of the books he had already signed which was a B&W variant. He pulled out a red marker and filled in Scott's visor and with a wry smile said "I gave you a little remarque."

I'm still shocked he's gone. Last year, I was fortunate enough to find/afford one of the only pages featuring Scott and Jean together from his run. Jean says to Scott he's only just a man. John may have been just a man, but to me, he was so much more.

Manix for all!

Manix does Dr. Strange so well! Another banger from Manix with an exceptional number of Stranges.

Bachalo is on my list for a Scott and Jean piece. Fingers crossed, one day! A terrific piece. Fierce.

Suspiria is so excellent. I really love this piece and how she's really made Asajj her own. The solid orange blades are nice too.

Ellery is so great. I want to get a piece of my own. This is a phenomenal composition. I love the figure eight created by the sash and the energy blade. I love the bright colors juxtaposed against the muted tones of the building and the paper.

Nathan is insanely talented! This is a phenomenal piece. <3

FOMO be FOMO, it made me pull the trigger on a Cassaday page lately, but this DPS is superb. A jewel in a regal collection.

It's an incredible piece, and it's a great cast of X-Men as well. Lee is a terrific artist, and I've always wanted a piece of his myself. Lee hinted at this piece on social media but the finished piece is incredible.

I heard the artist is only vaguely popular ;) but yeah this piece is pretty awesome and captures the best of one of my all-time favorite X-Men runs.

This is a spectacular piece. I love its storybook, mythological, and fairytale qualities. I think the other commissioners would struggle to find a concept that achieves the narrative excellence of this piece with different characters.

Aww, thanks! I do collect a lot of X-Men. I did feel a tad guilty about getting a commission since I already have those two mystery sketches. But, in fairness, it's a family member who keeps getting paired when she purchases the sketches for me as gifts. Seeing Manix use the Scott piece for his NYCC banner was also such a treat. Wow, it does! It's a great piece. I've got to get back on Gavin's list soon - it's been too long even though I just saw him at NYCC. He does these great remarques for me that I love.

Smashing! Gavin always does a terrific job and I love these big pieces. I love how much he packs in with an economy of lines and smooth inks.

Peter, I am remiss for failing to respond to your comment sooner. While I think many would say that Manix is implying that Logan and Jean live rent-free in Scott's head; I'd rather think it's Manix just having fun. While deconstructive I just love the 90s costume vignette. I have to say you're gonna love something I have coming from Manix at/after NYCC, especially considering our mutual love of Astonishing X-men.

I have three Tom pieces, one for X-men, one for Ghostbusters, and one for Beetlejuice. They could all be solicited for covers easily, and I agree that your piece would make an excellent cover. If I could afford it I'd just keep Tom on retainer for pieces quarterly.

Tom is a force unto himself; he always goes the extra mile with added characters. I love the looseness of the border, which adds to the submarine look of the piece. Stingray looks very regal here! A stunning piece - I bet this one was close to making it to the CAF liveshow.

I recommend a big bowl of popcorn and a rewatch. Then watch Robodoc, the multi-part documentary. I'd say, before, I thought I was a Robocop aficionado but I learned so much. As for the remake, it's sad because it has a killer cast and they're just wasted on a terrible plot, silly feints/rules, and bad effects.

As for Manix, he just sets himself apart with these mystery sketches. I have to reevaluate my wall space to figure out where to put this piece.

Couldn't ask for a better collage of my favorite X-men.

Thank you. Funny story: my mom ordered this as a gift for X-mas. Imagine her surprise when opening this in the mail, imagine her even greater surprise when I told her all about Manix. She is the lucky one.

Funny story: about six months before this opportunity Chris swore off commissions and rejected me. Then he wanted to take maybe five pieces for NYCC '23. I picked it up and he joked that I paid for his hotel room. I laughed. I also got a great Two-face remarque on City of Madness number 1.

I feel like this is the perfect cover for an 80's heavy metal/horror magazine. It pops because of the internal framing in the piece itself. I framed it in a metallic frame that looks like forged sword metal. It goes really well with the piece.

#137 is my favorite cover, I rarely ask for and even shy away from asking for homages but Brian did a great job and updated it for a more modern TAS look. I love how frenetic the piece is. I had Brian do a Dr. Strange piece for my nephew which is truly amazing! One day I'll own a fairly nice copy of #137. Kevin Wada is my number 1 choice to do a true homage to #137.
