If you could only have one Maroto page in your collection and you had this one---you made a great choice! The splash you have is beatiful as well. Maroto is one of the best with incorporating lettering into the artwork and make the letters...well..art!

I actually agree with you. It's not my absolute favorite Creepy cover. But, I won't say it pales in comparison to the others hanging next to it. Yet in person, it is surprising nicer, as many paintings are. But the nostaligia is what throws this over the top for me. Too many collectors "love" what everbody else is chasing. Sometimes there's merit in it---other times I look at the specific piece being proudly displayed, and I scratch my head...

Doesn't get more "Creepy" than this....

Fantastic! I love Tigra as well. I have most of her Monsters Unleashed magazine pages---but I wouldn't pass on her comicbook artwork; especially when they look like this! Congrats!

Gene. The whole story is great. It has one page with a famous image of Vampi and the werewolf fighting on a hill. Like your 23 story, it's very girly. Can't beat that!

Check on Heritage's past sales. One page is very nice. Actually both are done in a masterful way. It is a short story so important elements are on every page. But the page with the wolf in the top panel is stunning!

It's rare that I'll buy a single page from any story. But Reed's early Warren stories are so amazing (and expensive!). Plus, other than one EXTREMELY overpriced Crandall story for sale, where could you find a complete Warren story by him???

Great page from a great tale! Gonzalez Vampi pages are really get rare in the market---the real great ones (like this, that is). Credit must also be given to the great writers whose scripts made the character come alive. Yet, they needed a master drafter to put those words into artwork. Here, nobody beat Gonzalez in the line art department during the Warren days!

The number 1 covers has more battle action---but this painting is it's equal in my eye---

"Prelude to Armageddon"...one of the best Wood Warren stories. I had a few chances to grab a page from that myself Mark. That was before "just" an individual page would've done it for me. I wanted full stories. Now I'd give an arm for one of those pages!!!!! Thanks for the comment. Isn't that what collecting should be all about...

I own the original Mayo story that he did for Vampirella 102 involving the BRQ. The image he used on your cover is very similar to the splash of that story (I have it posted). Very nice!

Exactly Lindsay. We definitely lost Pepe much too soon. I heard he suffered from depression late in life amongst other things--so who knows! Again, I was told there were a bunch of fakes out there--but I never heard of a culprit found. Could it be that his work suffered at times and someone started a "rumor"...who knows. But if I ever find out for sure, I'll let you know. If you check my gallery, Warren Vampi stuff is one of the major things I collect (but I don't have a single frontipiece---don't know how that happened!)

Signature looks a little weird. I heard Jose did a few recreations of his Warren frontipieces in the mid to late 1990's up until 2000 or so. They were of varying quality--that is, many were not that good, especially compared to the masterpieces he did during the Warren days. Then I heard rumors that these "recreations" (or most of them), were fakes. I never heard a culprit was found---but with many of the frontipieces that I saw that were supposedly fake, they all had that weird signature and had many proportions that were off---stuff that Jose would never do. Some of his earlier pieces do seem a bit more rushed than others---but all were sound artistically. Tough call===did his work deteroriate to that level or were these light boxed and done by some fradulent source???

Apologize that I don't understand all of what you were trying to say--but if you look at my gallery, I have vintage Sanjulian covers from what many consider his peak working period and I even bought two covers that he has done much more recently, while the master is in his 80's. But every artist does have their prime periods--That's just a fact of life. Sanjulian is still amazing--But he has evolved. In some ways, he does more with less.  But very few will argue that any artist does have a time frame when every painting or piece of art they do is just magical. Some still carry that throughout their lives. Some unfortunately do not. Sanjulian is one that still has it and always will. But does not change my initial comment
