This is amazing---and truly rare. What a find!
I saw this gem a short while ago when I revisited the museum. It is amazing!
Vampirella covers in the original Warren series by Enric are like Vampirella interior pages by Jose Gonzalez---there is no better...period! This cover illustrates my point!
Agreed Marcus. I was 11 when I bought this off the stands. I had to hide this from my mother or I know she wouldn't let me buy these any more. She was already up in arms about my Vampis---but I kept them at the bottom of the pile----
One of the nicest commissions I've ever seen!
Before I acquired numerous Enric Vampi covers, Vampi 30 was #1 on my wantlist. I know the person who still owns it---but that doesn't help me much! I held the original in my hand---it is amazing! Love the kodachrome---it must look amazing in person!
Amazing piece of Vampirella history--beautiful!
This is amazing! The only other piece I've ever seen close to this is a beautiful splash from Silver Streak 10 by Jack Cole. But this is a cover---are you kidding me! Golden Age Daredevil is my hand-off favorite comic character. It was my goal to get the best copies of Silver Streak Comics which introduced the character in issue 6. I also have an impressive run of the original DD series, including a copy of this book (which is hard enough to get). Huge congrats on this artwork. Definitely one of my favorites on all of CAF!
Can't believe I didn't comment on this before---this is amazing! The likeness of Bond and Domino are absolutely first rate!
Great page! Tex's Pantha pages are the only non-Warren Publishing work on her that I actively collect---because they were the best!
Looks like you got all the best of the newer Sanjulian paintings. Congrats!
Jose got better and better as time went on. Yet I love everything he did---from his early stories which had more of a flow to the style--to his more detailed photo realistic art, like this!
When I formerly met Ken at one of the NJ Chiller Shows, he had this on display. I immediately asked 'how much???'---and Ken told me it was sold to a good collecting friend of his! I remember it was absolutely amazing in person. All artists have those few pieces that really define themselves. This is his, for sure!
Enric Vampirella cover from the orignal Warren run---the absolute best!
Forget any comment I've made about your artwork...to me, THIS is your best piece. I love it!
This is probably my favorite Gonzalez piece. I would take this over ANY frontispiece, even though many are quite masterful. Congrats!
Amazing piece Rob! Belongs with you---
Amazing---most covers are nicer in person than how they printed up. This is a watercolor. It's a bit subdued compared to how it printed up. But it's not faded at all. Warren definitely brightened up many covers when he was publishing them. Yet, regardless, side by side, the original has much more to it that printing, especially back then, couldn't replicate
I love Mayo's work. His El Cid may be his crown jewel. I have two memorable full Vampirella stories done by him that are fantastic--but this may nudge them out in an artistic sense. Trust me, this is a bold statement! Beautiful page!
AMAZING! One of the four original gallery paintings done by Sanjulian (the others being the Cobra Queen, Queen of Hearts, and the Ghoul Queen). These were done years ago before numerous recreations were done of many of his works. Many are great...some are good---the original four galleries were, by far, the best! Congrats on this beauty!
Great art and greater story! I, like you, were able to get my absolute grail (and even many secondary grails). I could not think of a price that would get me to sell- having it is worth much more to me than any dollar amount ever could---period!
I agree--I held the original in my hands before it sold and ended in Heritage. It was amazing---so sharp and detailed. But this revisit is multi-layered and, in person, is more breath-taking than even I thought it would be. I honestly think this is Sanjulian's prime painting in his golden years of his painting life--hell---it's even better than many of his earlier paintings, in my opinion--
Beautiful piece Jay. Congrats!
Another prime example of why Enric is my favorite artist---
Excellent---nothing else needs to be said. Enric still has it in spades...congrats!
Amazing painting---
Nice page! Splash from second story "Night Full of Zombies" involving Pantha and Adam--
Thanks! Every collector concentrates on Gonzalez from the Warren years. But there were many others who did a great job on her as well--
Beautiful artwork!
You picked one of the nicer pages from that story. They're all nice in my book---but some better than others. Congrats!
What a beauty---congrats!
Amazing...amazing...amazing! Like you, I've searched high and low for this original cover. I had a collector/dealer friend who was trying to put together the entire set of interior stories from this issue. He eventually backed off, and sold me the two (of the five) full stories he had. Now I'm trying to take up the task! Your recreation is first rate. I more than love it!
Beautiful recreation! You learn something new every day---I did not realize that Sanjulian slightly changed versions of this painting to distinguish from the original. Believe it or not, this is probably the painting that Sanjulian recreated the most. I know I have seen four versions. One in particular is gallery sized (as he did with three other Warren masterpieces). Some recreations, like yours, are spot on. One of the others was good; but not up to the standards of the others. I'm going to try and search out the others to see if he made any noticeable changes as he did with yours. I did see the version with the ornate Vampirella painted on the sides---that was a real nice one as well--
