Sinnott is such an interesting choice to ink Colan.  He doesn't attempt to ink tonally, like Tom Palmer did, but manages to keep those dark shadows from becoming flat with that wonderfully lush feathering of his.  A sweet, sweet page.  Congrats my friend.

Great detective work Rob! Had my eye on this one but was gun shy about bidding on it b/c I couldn't verify if it was published or not. Glad you found the source.

Thanks Hans.  I really do enjoy the research end of the hobby.  It helps bring some context to these older pieces.  And with all of the archives online today, it makes researching that much easier.

That's a very cool page, my friend.  I honestly don't know much about Moore's work and didn't know anything about the "controversy" until I read about it here.  I don't read the boards very much, but it was interesting to see all the varied points of view.  Regarding the artwork, the textures, patterns and shapes are amazing.  I get an Alex Nino vibe from some of it, mixed a bit with Cyil Pedrosa's work.  In any event, I'm glad you snagged a page you love.  It clearly has gone to a loving home.

Question: How did people obtain drawings like this back then?  Were there actual fan letters that artists replied back with drawings?

Marcus, absolutely.  I have many specialty drawings like this, and sometimes the cartoonists would do a drawing on the back of the recipient's letter or postcard.  One famous collection was put together by Gladys Clements, who wrote to cartoonists and illustrators for decades, amassing an incredible collection.  I have a binder with photocopies of all the pieces fromt he collection.
