I just LOVE the color choices Herriman made on his Sundays. They are so fresh and unforced. Has anyone published a book of reprints of these old tear sheets? They're eys-opening! ![]() Bill, Rick Marschall published a couple of volumes under his REMCO banner in the early 90s. I could have been a one of a kind situation - but I wasn't impressed. ![]() My experience with George was quite good, though it did take a long time for him to fully commit. He wouldn't take any money until he was able to commit to the commission and then it went very quickly. Be patient and he'll come through for you. |

Gil KANE / The Crusty Bunkers; Journey Into Mystery #2, page 9 Owner: J. Hiroshi Morisaki Comment posted on 11/1/2020 Hiroshi, I think you're spot-on with you comments. Looking at the first few pages of the story, they're completely different. More like a Jack Abel approach to inking. But this one has telltale signs of Adams inks, in a couple of the faces, but especially in those hands in the final panel. Why not check with Neal himself? |

Wizard of Oz by Jeremy Bastian Owner: George Hagenauer Comment posted on 10/2/2020 Actually, this was a prearranged drawing, so was not actually a "con sketch". I picked it up from Jeremy at the convention, but it wasn't drawn there. And it most certainly is a lovely drawing, with rich details. I don't think we could have traded two more opposite drawings! Thanks George. |

Gene Ahern - The Little Hitchhiker Owner: Rob Stolzer Comment posted on 9/14/2020
Carl Linich said:
1936 was the first year of Squirrel Cage, and actually, the hitchhiker doesn't appear until December. Based on the size of his hat (which starts off small and keeps growing over the years) I'd say this is more likely mid to late 1940s. Sweet specialty piece! :) ![]() Thanks for the info, my friend. This collection wasn't quite from that late, so maybe it's closer to 1940 or so. |

Vogue (est. 1930) By Laurence Fellows Owner: Brian Coppola Comment posted on 6/14/2020
Rob Stolzer said:
Held's earlier work was more like this. He didn't develop that more angular Art Deco approach until the 20s. ![]() Brian, it's also interesting to note how similar Fellows' style is to that of the British cartoonist Anne Harriet Fish. There may be more of a Beardley influence on the both of them than anything else. |

Vogue (est. 1930) By Laurence Fellows Owner: Brian Coppola Comment posted on 6/14/2020
Brian Coppola said:
That's funny. The very first time I saw this (and it's been a while... I just never got around to posting it), I reacted to it as a Held drawing. Wishful thinking, I guess. The level of abstraction in the face/head convinced me otherwise. Too bad there is no clue or remark on the back to try and pin down its appearance in print. ![]() Held's earlier work was more like this. He didn't develop that more angular Art Deco approach until the 20s. |

Vogue (est. 1930) By Laurence Fellows Owner: Brian Coppola Comment posted on 6/14/2020 A beautiful Fellows illustration, Brian. There is a John Held, Jr. vibe about the piece, though Fellows was more organic in his work, to Held's angularity. Lovely stuff. |
