That is really special, Ike! Curt told me he hated to ink his own pencils; he thought he was too heavy on the lines but this is gorgeous! What a find.

Actually, this page appeared as the second story in Love and Marriage 11 (not 1) in 1953 and was reprinted by IW in 1958. It is definitely not Baker (sorry)... maybe Kamen but my guess is John Forte. Even still, so many hands touched the pages in the Iger shop it could be many people on the same page. Regardless, it is an excellent example!

I understand your point, and you are correct that artists have swiped from each other for centuries. I do disagree with your definition of "swipes" including photo- or model reference. If you don't draw what you see... what do you draw. The masters used models. Many of the great comic artists used photos and models for reference... Raymond, Williamson, Frazetta. Are they all swipes? Regardless, the only reason someone would swipe from them was that they were so well done and inspired someone else to copy the image!

This is art for the last page of the story the GCD lists as "Him!'... although there really was no title on the story. Him is the villain of the story that appeared in Speed 34, September 1944.

Thanks Richard... I agree. Three nice shots of Comet. The middle panel is exceptional. The trouble is that no scan can really capture that delicate inking; you have to see that in person.

Steven... that is very interesting because the original is on heavy board and the logo is drawn on the board as part of the image. It isn't a paste on. There is no art behind the logo. If Classic Comics Press used this sans logo with more detail, either Starr re-did it, or some production people modified it.

I believe that both GCD and the original Heritage auctions of these stories listed this as being by Sink. I think Ben Herman did those ID's. It isn't signed anywhere.

I have looked closely at the page... the only edits seem to be the male singer's mustache and sideburns. The dress is the same through the first two pages and does not seem altered. So no extra cleavage on this one.

McWilliams is a very overlooked artist. The detail he puts into his work makes his war work special. He should be mentioned in the same breath as Kubert and Heath.

It is great to see this piece again. Leonardi did this as a sketch for me at a local show. I had it for several years and when Williamson saw it he told me that he'd love to ink it. Sorry, Frederic, but how could I say no? And I think he did a great job! This is one of those drawings I have regretted letting go of ever since I made the mistake of selling it (in San Diego in 1994, I believe).

Isis was one of my favorite 1970's characters, and I was pleased that DC brought her back in this incarnation. I agree with previous comments... a difficult pose carried off extremely well! A great addition!

Stevens drew the upper half of this page. He signed it "D.S." in the upper left corner near the port hole. Heath drew the rest of the story with some inking by Stevens. However the top panel of this page is ALL Stevens.
