Certainly a different era. These gentleman were taking advantage of one stop, Probably for them, inexpensive cleanliness.

Certainly a different era. People dressed just to go to the store. Old photos capture this period in amazing detail. I think the artist caught the spirit of that period wonderfully.

Good question. I had originally thought this was oil, but the collector who owned it prior said it is Goauche. The tones are much more striking in person.

Yiu are spot on. No monitors or screens to rely on. You could open any type of publication, and see marvelous work like this. Truly a Golden Age.

Hids use of light and dark, throughout his career, is always wonderful. In person, the tones are much more vivid. He was also an excellent storyteller.

He was a master of character and expression.I also love the clown. I consider myself fortunate to have two Rusty pages bookending his work on the strip.

He was a master of expression, character, and setting. One of the great strip artist/Illustrators. I love studying the panels of this page.

His figures were masterfully done. While this piece has no background, he was really wonderful at anchoring his characters in a setting. Many times, it involved really well thought out humor.

I guess it would improve flexability, but could result in a charleyhouse! From all appearances, he is painting on socks. That would probably cut down on the laundry bill. A very interesting drawing.

I stumbled across all these Gruger's from one source. I've always enjoyed seeing his work, but never thought a piece would come my way. I feel that these are early in his career. No dates. Just the handwritten titles. As I love inks, these were very welcome to my small collection.

Thanks. Yes, I was on the wrong side of the Atlantic. It should have been attributed to Punch. After sifting through my files, I may have been a little punchy! I do love his pen and ink pieces. He has been neglected in the intervening years, as have been so many other wonderful artists.

I think his work on this title is under appreciated. Although it was recently reprinted in a nice hardcover, The original muddy colors did not make a fantastic initial impression. I saw through those, and loved it from publication. Simply amazing storytelling throughout.

I loved to visit with Mark at his appearances. It was like seeing atreasure trove when I looked through his portfolio. I'm thankful I was able to add my pieces years back. The current prices, though well deserved, have gone beyond my budget. I still love admiring his beautiful new work.
