Yes, it's spectacular.  I only know of his work (and the whole genre of comics in illustrated papers of the period) from The Origins of Comics by Theirry Smoldern - there's a Reginald Cleaver reproduced in that book. I'm amazed that there are still originals around!

Dan, I discovered him several years back. I can't understand why he is not more widely recognized. After picking up several of his antique printed pages, I just about fell out of my chair when I ran across this original. I am beyond thrilled to be able to have it in my small collection. I would love to see a book focusing on his career.

The fascination with flight was everywhere as a sign of adventure and class as passenger planes were just starting and reserved for the very rich.  These bi planes that flew closer to the ground could be seen more readily and be the stuff of daydreams.

Great slice of life drawing depicting the proper courtship rituals of the times.  It is romantic because of the natural setting and the formal dress where hand holding may be in the offing.

Marcus, Alonging look into each other's eyes seems on the horizon. Certainly, a different era of courtship. Sorry the image is so shiny. The shades are very well done, when not glistening in my photo.

Fabulous vintage illustration! So much charm and artistry to editorial drawings from this era. The lion's posture is regal and relaxed, but how did Follett conceive of this nutty photographer's leaping pose?

Artless, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I, too, love the art from this era. The lion is majestic. The photographer seems to echo the, years later, antics of Jerry Lewis.  "Hey, Liooooooon!" Certainly two different types of characters.

Beautiful true western storytelling on this painting.  It was not always tales of legend, but the harsh rugged lifestyle that tested man in the frontier world.  The colors around the main figures have that wonderful color wash paints to frame thir situation.  Technically clean and dramatically intense!
