Doctor Strange by P Craig Russell (from The Marvel Comics Limited Edition Superhero Print Series 1986 - see additional images) Owner: E DLS Comment posted on 8/13/2025 This is a beautiful piece and so emblematic of the artists's work as well. Doctor Strange is not an easy character to do well as it requires the right depiction, artistically, of the atmospherics as well. If there is one person who has been criticized for overpaying, it is me (even though the critics often didn't realize I was the owner). But what matters is that the artwork concerned matters - to you. Whatever it cost, I know that it means more to you than any material valuation. Many congrats, Eric. |

From that early '80s period when there were competing publishers vying to resurrect the property. I got them all. A fantastic piece from that chapter in T.H.U.N.D.E.R. history! ![]() Many thanks, Felix. I know I've already said this many times, but I wonder if Ditko could have done better if he had inked this piece himself. And because of the subject matter (invisibility), the final result is quite stunning. |

Very cool!!! so many interesting elements in the composition and content wise. I dont know what year it was (I assume more modern based on comments above) but it almost has a golden age feel to it with how the action and violence is depicted - especially the knives and punch to the face. Blyberg did a great job inking this for sure! As a collector who doesnt have any Ditko art myself I can empathize with the sentiment of feeling like Ill never be able to afford one but as you said there are other titles which can be had for less (relative to his big Marvel works). Congrats on the cover! ![]() Many thanks, Kavi. That's a great description and analysis of the page. You CAN afford a nice Ditko page and I trust that one will come your way soon. Even some of his later Marvel pages are still just about affordable. |

This is really early career Willie Blyberg. What a great feather in his cap to have gotten to ink Ditko, and so early on in his career. Though not a known Ditko inker, he did a very nice job giving Ditko's pencils a more modern flair! The design is impeccable and both pencils and inks compliment each other wonderfully. Congratulations, CAB! ![]() Many thanks, Rubén. Yes, the combination worked out so well indeed; he must have poured out his heart and soul into this piece. |

I think anyone inking Ditko tried to be as faithful as they could because of his legendary stature. Even those extra details of later Ditko art come through that made him so distinct. It's like a time capsule. ![]() Many thanks, Marcus. The inks here are exceptional. Of course, Ditko's style was unique so if, as you say, the inker was diligent, the end product would be excellent. |

I've long considered the more affordable (or at least less expensive) option of a more contemporary or modern age Ditko example. Seeing your post may have inspired me to get more serious about it. I'm sure I'm not the only collector who hates the idea of unobtainable art. As with Frazetta, acquiring even a half decent Ditko example just never seemed to be in the cards. Hopefully I still have enough time and luck to follow your example. Congrats on this fabulous cover by one of the greatest legends of the art form. ![]() Many thanks, Eric. For a piece that truly moves one (even from a so-called lesser title) requires patience but, in my experience, one just has to be ... patient. It is always possible. And I found that there is no point aiming for something impossible for one's finances. So for Frazetta, I settled on a very nice Western piece and a Johnny Comet strip. An artist's skill is always evident and these pieces more than filled my need for a couple of Frazetta examples at a reasonable budget. |

Ruben DaCollector said:
The Dark Knight art was illustrated in such a way that Miller and Janson did not lay down many larger black areas, which left the art more open for the colorist to essentially finish the line art with the colors. Which means that rather than just doing flat, even color fills, Lynn Varley also applied a lot of the shading and lighting techniques with her colors. That's why, while I usually prefer the line art without colors, on Dark Knight I've always preferred the fully finished art including the colors, as the art is essentially still somewhat incomplete looking on the penciled/inked boards with a lot of empty negative space. So for this series, having both the line art matched up with Varley's color art is essential to having the "completed" art. Congratulations on accomplishing that, CAB! ![]() Many thanks, Rubén, for this very valuable insight. The color art is really superb to view in person and, as mentioned, is unlike the traditional color guide; it is a work of art in itself. |

It's a nice one that has everything you could want from Carrie Kelly, Batman, the mutants, TV News broadcast panels, and city politics!
