Too bad we didn't get this particular interaction in the Superman movie.  Really showcases the vastly different characters of these two supers.   I love how the other Justice Gang members are looking on at the bottom of that cool vertical panel (I really don't know why they didn't go with "Justice Gang" in the comics ... sooo much cooler) ... haha!

I know, right?  I'm such a harsh critic!  Haha!  This was only my third movie theater movie since the pandemic began, so that definitely added to my excitement factor.  There are so many benefits to seeing a movie like this on the big screen, though it also doesn't take long to remember why it can be so frustrating (hello rude people!).  But yeah I agree with you...this wonderful piece, like the movie itself, really showcases Superman's soft caring side.

So great to have you posting something after quite a long hiatus.  And what an awesome page!  It's a battle of wills that has all the power & intensity of a knockdown drag out brawl, and yeah, the six panel layout is very pleasing.  I must admit that upon first viewing my focus went immediately to the third and fourth panels, and I thought that Superman and Guy Gardner were moving tall blades of grass aside to peer menacingly at each other.  Haha! But that interpretation was quickly dispelled.  I'm really looking forward to seeing Superman in the theater next week.  I've heard similarly positive reviews to yours, and as I am much more forgiving (and usually blissfully unaware) of any flaws, I know that I'll really love it.  Anyway...Congrats on a fantastic post! (So nice to be able to leave YOU a comment after all the ones you have left for me).

That's a perfect analysis of DPSs and the best ways that they can be most effective. Humberto used this DPS (and the previous lead-in page) as a way to bring the reader RIGHT into the action in a #1 issue.  Because often times, a new volume of a title will begin slowly, easing in the reader with an origin re-telling or some back story to bring you up to speed.  Not here, uh uh no sir.  BLAM!  MID BATTLE MAYHEM! I also agree with you that it would have been cool to have some spectators in those building windows, or at least some shadows of them.  Especially since Humberto is famous for drawing cover scenes with lots of folks standing around on the sidewalk, watching as Spider-Man (or several Spider-beings) swing about.  This scene kind of has the feel of a city street that has been evacuated beforehand in anticipation of trouble, and maybe that's what Humberto was going for.  Anyway, thank you for the awesome comment.  I thought of you when I decided to post this piece in lieu of a Hembeck sketch card last night, cuz I know how much you like Fred Friday :-)  But tonight I will be posting a doozy, so stay tuned!

Man oh man, I'm really taken by this piece! I really love the look and feel of it.  So many creative inking effects that produces a scratchy, yet totally finished, feel.  Whether it's Batman, or the Hulk in Batman's cowl, he looks great!  :-)  But seriously, this is extremely cool, congrats!

I see your point.  I realized I was somewhat fudging the definition of a 'volume 1" comic.  What I should have said that it's nice to not have to put down a volume number + issue number + legacy number in parenthesis. It's so cumbersome.  So much nicer to just put down 'Fantastic Four #525' and be done with it.  And I guess in my mind, when a title reverts to the legacy numbering for any period of time, it has reverted back to volume 1.  But that's  just me 😊. Thank you for the congrats!
