My RUSE Cabinet Owner: John Stuart Comment posted on 6/26/2021
Duke Fleed aka #1 Groo Fan said:
Based on the panelling - I imagine this is in a basement? Personally I would not keep art in the basement -but I like the filing cabinet. It could make for nice tv stand or be the base for a bed for a small child. thanks for sharing. ![]() There's definitely a risk storing art in the basement. But, I have nowhere else to store it. Our house is on high ground and there's no history of flooding. The water would have to exceed 33" to touch the art, so even in a flood, I'd be able to rescue it prior to any damage. Fingers crossed. |

Frazetta Photo reference Owner: John Stuart Comment posted on 2/23/2021
comicinkking. com said:
Yes, tounge firmly in cheek. I'll admit I used to think photo reference was "cheating" when I was very young, but the reality is, you can do amazing work with photo reference, and it makes you a better artist. Nothing at all wrong with it - and should actually be encouraged. Some people want to romantacize artists like Frazetta or Alex Raymond by purporting that they never used photo reference, when they in fact did (Frazetta probably much less than Raymond). Doesn't change my estimation of them as artists. ![]() I've never viewed the use of photo reference as cheating, but as a valid tool in any great artist's bag of tricks. Frazetta will always be the GOAT.

Good fun! Isn't that the "Tarzan and the Castaways" original on the wall? ![]() You have sharp eyes, I missed that and considering that it was drawn in 1964 Frank couldn't have used the pic as a photo reference for the Johnny Comet which was published in 1952. That being said, the similarity is remarkable. |

I’ve always maintained the opinion that Al Williamson is the most under appreciated artists ever to work in the medium of comics. this brilliant example further reinforces my opinion. congrats on picking up this exemplary example! ![]() YM - I totally agree, Williamson is one of the true masters of this medium and doesn't get the credit he deserves. I became a Williamson fan late in the game and now find examples of his prime work to be prohibitively expensive. Extremely happy to have acquired this masterpiece.
