Avengers in Color Owner: The AvengersFan Comment posted on 9/6/2012 Cool to see my work colored by someone other than me. Looks pretty good - - if you had asked for a higher res scan (from a photocopy I made for me records, the original commission being LONG sold...) it could have been sharper. Again - - nice coloring! |

Frazetta finished color piece- L.R. Hubbard's Skull Machine unpublished! Owner: Rob Pistella Comment posted on 4/23/2012 Amazing prelim! In oil paint, the metal of the skull would have likely looked more Frazetta-ish. Here, it looks like he was planning out the contrasts. |

Conan Saga #3 cover Owner: Scott Williams Comment posted on 4/9/2009 Amazing cover, full of the poetic tension found in Barry's best work. One... minor problem though -- it's the cover to Conan Saga #3, not #2. |

The New Mutants #45 cover / LifeDeath HC pg.139 Owner: Enrico Salvini Comment posted on 12/27/2007 Beautiful and unmistakably BWS! Not to slight the interior artists or the writer, but I remember buying this issue of New Mutants because of this cover. |

Conan #20, Owner: Richard Martines Comment posted on 7/23/2007 Beautiful! This is possibly my favorite of Barry's Conan covers, bringing his then recent Pre-Raphaelite influences to the composition. |

Asajj Ventress Owner: Colin McDonald Comment posted on 6/19/2007 Since I'm not a fan of the 3 Star Wars prequels, and haven't followed the books and comics that have spun off, I have no idea who Asajj Ventress is -- but DAMN! That's one HELL of a con sketch!! |

Craig Hamilton - Speyeria Nokomis Owner: Malcolm Bourne Comment posted on 6/3/2007 Another beautiful picture by Craig. If he'd been born 80 years or so earlier, he might have given Maxfield Parrish serious competition! |

Isis Owner: Craig Hamilton Comment posted on 1/3/2007 Damn! If this is one your earliest works with the Prisma-Color pencils, you must have taken to the medium like the proverbial duck to water! |

Nokomis (in progress) Owner: Craig Hamilton Comment posted on 1/3/2007 First thing I thought when I saw the thumbnail was, "Maxfield Parish!". I'm glad there are a couple unfinished Parish paintings out there to see the technique and I hope you leave a scan of your under-painting up once the finished work is posted (can hardly wait to see that). Amazing work, Craig! I've never tried the blue under-painting, but looking at your skillful use of the technique, feel inspired to give it a try. |

Idea Clara Lucone Owner: Craig Hamilton Comment posted on 1/3/2007 I think I used "awe-inspiring", or something like that to describe another of your works -- and I hate to repeat myself -- but I can't think of another way to put it -- this HUGE painting is Awe-Inspiring (must be even more so, seeing at actual size "in person"). The sky and moon-lighting heighten the magic feel of the picture -- reminds me a little of some German Romantic landscapes. Beautiful! |

Adventures In Neverland page 2 Owner: Craig Hamilton Comment posted on 1/3/2007 The design, drawing and storytelling in these pages is inspiring. The Art Nouveau elements could have been distracting, in lesser hands, but you made it work perfectly, Craig. |

The Nursery Owner: Craig Hamilton Comment posted on 1/3/2007 Wonderfully designed and detailed. Reminiscent of the very best from "the golden age of illustration". |

Adventures In Neverland page 3 Owner: Craig Hamilton Comment posted on 1/3/2007 Beautifully drawn, smooth storytelling and skillful use of the Art Nouveau motifs and panel borders. Wonderful work, Craig! |

Frank Frazetta: Tarzan and Numa Canaveral Plate Owner: Rob Pistella Comment posted on 1/2/2007 Those Canaveral Tarzan illustrations are incredible. On those pieces, Frank performed magic with a brush. If there's ever been finer brush inking, I haven't seen it. |
Six Nudes and Tarzan Sketch page--outstanding! Owner: Rob Pistella Comment posted on 1/2/2007 Even drawn loosely, Frazetta's women always have that special charm. Those lion heads are pretty cool, too, especially since Frazetta rarely used reference for sketches like these. |

Watercolor study. Owner: Richard Martines Comment posted on 1/2/2007 Simple and elegant -- the lighting from the right, from behind the barbarian figure gives the picture a strong feeling of pathos. |

Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X (Marvel Comics Presents #80 p.4) Owner: mark ou Comment posted on 1/2/2007 Great vigorous page from a master of comic book art. I'll bet the inking looks even more impressive up close. |

Beautiful nude I'm Age Jeffrey Jones Owner: Rob Pistella Comment posted on 1/2/2007 I know Idyll has more fans, but I've always liked I'mage (maybe because I've seen more of it). I wish someone would reprint both strips. Great page! |

Conan Saga #3 finished preliminary Owner: Rob Pistella Comment posted on 1/2/2007 As with many of Barry's prelims, I'm not sure which I like best -- the prelim or the finished piece. This is not to slight the finished cover(a favorite from Conan Saga) -- but the prelim suggests a different direction the cover could have taken and is pregnant with possibility. |
Sibyl Owner: Rob Pistella Comment posted on 1/2/2007 Incredibly beautiful--! I don't know how many times I've studied this image in OPUS. Very reminiscent of Fredrick Lord Leighton's works, like "Flaming June" -- only Barry, or perhaps Jeff Jones can equal artists of that caliber. |
Medusa Owner: Rob Pistella Comment posted on 1/1/2007 It looks as though Barry considered a revised version of Medusa I (printed in The Studio and OPUS2) -- this seems to combine elements of the earlier Medusa, with Medusa II, which may have grown out of this picture(just a guess). It's a stunning and refined picture. Beautiful!! Medusa is a muse that doesn't let go easily... |

Pandora finished preliminary Owner: Rob Pistella Comment posted on 1/1/2007 Fascinating to see this stage of the work -- to see the changes Barry made between this final prelim and the finished work (Pandora's dress and other details). It's also fascinating to see, before our eyes, Barry's approach shift from that of his Pre-Raphaelite influenced comics work to this even more Pre-Raphaelite style. This piece always reminded me of William Holman Hunt's "The Lady of Shalott", in composition. In these prelims we can see BWS grow as an artist. |

Fate Sowing the Stars (pencil) detail Owner: Rob Pistella Comment posted on 1/1/2007 Is this the same prelim that was published in The Studio? I love the finished painting, but might like this prelim, with it's nigh-perfect drawing, even more. The other commenter was right -- it's certainly a work on par with the greats of the Italian Renaissance, or the English Pre-Raphaelites and NeoClassicists |
Devil's Lake preliminary Owner: Rob Pistella Comment posted on 1/1/2007 All the intensity of the finished piece is apparent in this powerful prelim. |
Ram and Peacock Preliminary Owner: Rob Pistella Comment posted on 1/1/2007 Fascinating insight into Barry's working method, during his early Gorblimey period. |
Medusa preliminary Owner: Rob Pistella Comment posted on 1/1/2007 I agree with the previous comment -- a very intense and compelling drawing! |
