Thanks! - I'm a huge fan of Wrightson and discovered artists like Franklin Booth from him. Bernie was the first professional artist I ever met. back in '95.
Astounding work! Bernie was amazing - - and remains an inspiration for other artists, a high watermark we try to reach! This scan looks sharper than the printed book - - a lot of that crosshatch in the night sky closed up in print. Thanks for sharing!
Stunning Shadow art by the amazing Michael Wm Kaluta! Thanks for sharing, Alex!
A wonderful work of art. I've loved this piece since seeing it reproduced thumbnail sized on ads in the back of old Savage Sword of Conan magazines... finally got the print a decade back, but still don't have wall space worthy of it. I hope you someday photograph the original - - I'd love to see if it shows traces of the blue pencils Barry often used... see if there are corrections, passages covered with white paint, then re-inked... all that good stuff... Congratulations on owning such an incredible drawing from one of comics and fantasy/romantic art's best.
Always liked this sequence - - both Barry's writing and drawing of this dream-like flashback, inked skillfully, by Kathryn Bolinger. A great example of BWS's Valiant work!
Great Page, from a great miniseries, from one of the true super-stars of comics, Barry Windsor-Smith - - ! Helped out here, after his long absence from comics, by Herb Trimpe's layouts, but the rendering is pure BWS!
A great page! Barry did some amazing work, for Valiant.
Stunning! Have always liked this sequence, from Eternal Warrior.
Wonderful organic inking, over Buscema's rock-solid foundation!
Stunning! It's always a wonder to see BWS, in full "Red Nails"/early Gorblimey mode, inked Jack, without watering down his style, or overpowering Kirby's - - which granted, is so powerful, it's almost impossible to overpower... anyone a good mix! Barry's style seems to bring out Kirby's 3-D-ish strengths more than ever!
This was a challenging and fun commission to do.
My jaw dropped, looking at this enhanced page - - a great page, from a great artist! Congrats on getting this gem.
Love Gary's Prince Valiant work and you've acquired a great page!
Did you pay "commission" prices, or "Convention sketch" prices.... the word "commission is too often used loosely, even when something is clearly a convention sketch and I wonder if that's what is happening here...?
Yow! That's nice! 'Ahem' love the lighting and the choice to leave out any background, or whatever she's sitting upon...
Another reason why Bernie is among my favorite artists and source of inspiration! Great piece of comic book art!
Amazing work of art! I have a print of this that I've heard varying stories of whether the print is an "official" print...
Very, very, nice... even if sold (for more than I could likely afford ), thanks for sharing a scan - - new to me.
Great page from that classic "Hawks From the Sea" Conan issue that was mostly reproduced from pencils!
Loved Barry's inking over Jack... a true melding of their styles, without either style overpowering.
I always thought you did a spectacular job inking BWS, John, as this excellent page demonstrates.
Classic page, from a great story!
Great page! Young Axus at his most Conan-esque!
