ORIGINAL ART EXPO ART AUCTION & FUNDRAISER EVENT
The Original Art Expo's Saturday Night Art Auction and Fundraiser Event will begin at 6:15pm EST on Saturday, February 21st. We anticipate roughly 80 Artwork lots to bid on, which will include artworks contributed by each Artist exhibiting at OAX.
Proxy Bidding for posted artworks will begin mid-January and continue until 11:59pm EST on February 17th. While many lots will be presented at the start of proxy bidding, additional pieces will be posted throughout the week.
The OAX Art Auction and Fundraiser Event is also a benefit auction for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, the Hero Initiative, the Kirby Museum and the Project Pinball Charity benefiting a local Children’s Hospital. ALL pieces in the auction will have anywhere between 10-60% of their sales going directly to those charities, and there will also be a few pieces designated as having 100% of sales going to Hero.
PROXY BIDDING
Proxy bids will be accepted through the OA X Comic Art Fans Gallery. Each artwork will have a minimum bid amount specified in the FOR SALE field and in the artwork description.
To submit your bid, use the CONTACT THE OWNER form on each artwork lot or email [email protected] with your proxy bid amount. When placing your proxy bid, please provide us with your maximum bid amount. Proxy bids will not be revealed prior to the live Floor Bidding, however, if a lot has more than one proxy bid, then we'll use the proxy bids to set the starting bid amount for Floor Bidding.
SETTING THE OPENING FLOOR BID
When there is only one or no proxy bids on an Artwork in the Auction, the starting bid on the floor will be the original minimum bid amount placed on the Artwork.
If there are two or more proxy bids on an Artwork, then the following increments will be added to the second highest proxy bid:
$50 - $1,000 = $25
$1,001 - $2,500 = $50
$2,500 - UP = $100
These increments will also be used for the live bidding.
For example, a lot with a minimum starting bid of $500 having one proxy bid for $1,500 and a second proxy bid for $750 will have an opening floor bid of $775. OAX will have staff members at the Auction who will bid on behalf of proxy bidders who have proxy bid amounts that have not been reached.
Your proxy bid enters you into a binding contract with OAX. If your proxy bid is the winning bid and you're not present at OAX, you're required to purchase the Artwork and cover shipping and handling. Base S&H in the US is $35, and international shipping is $65. The cost to ship an item can vary based on the size of the Artwork.
AUCTION PADDLES
Auction paddles will be issued to all Exhibitors, Guests, and Attendees when they pick up their badges at the registration desk. Each paddle will already be assigned a number linked to your name, so no number changes will be made, and paddles can't be exchanged.
LIVE FLOOR BIDDING AT OAX
Our Hosts will be tasked with keeping the bidding lively and fast-paced. If you're interested in bidding on the floor, we encourage you to sit in front of the stage where 300 chairs will be set up. When you want to place a bid, simply raise your auction paddle so the number can be easily read aloud by our Hosts.
PAYMENTS
At the close of the Live Auction, all winning bidders should approach the Auction Desk to arrange payment. We will accept CASH or Credit Card (VISA/MC/AMEX/Apple Pay/Google Pay) as forms of payment. We will allow time payments of up to 60 days with a minimum payment of 1/3 the amount of your overall Auction winnings being made at the close of the Auction. Your second 1/3 must be paid within 30 days, and the final 1/3 must be paid in 60 days. Auction payments are non-refundable. Winning Bidders who opt for time payments will be responsible for the S&H amounts as outlined above. Proxy bid winners will be notified by email and given the same 60 day offer for making payment. All sales are subject to a 6.5% Florida sales tax.
OAX AUCTION & PIZZA PARTY + OPEN BAR
The Saturday, February 21st event at OAX will begin at 6:15pm and run until about 8:00pm.
Almost all of the auction pieces will be displayed in a special gallery at OAX on the main show floor. Saturday attendees will be able to see the pieces in person in advance of the auction and will be the only people allowed to bid at the live auction.
More information about the auction will be provided prior to the first lot being announced.
