Description

I attended Comic Art Con in April 2021 and blew a hole in my art budget with this piece.
I started reading comics at an early age and they were comics that belonged to my cousins - mostly humor comics, Casper, Richie Rich, Archie etc. On a trip visiting my grandfather, I found some Gold Key Tarzan comics that belonged to my uncle. In these pages I discovered the brilliant art of Russ Manning. Even to my youthful eyes, his art stood out. As I grew older, I was absorbed into the realm of superhero comics but I retained a reverence for Manning's art. I had seen this page at a previous Comic Art Con and had had discussions about buying it.
But this time, the owner was down to just two Manning pieces including this one which actually was the one I had my eye on previously.
I figured that must be a sign that this one was meant for me and took the plunge.
