Sometimes, a comic series just comes along at the right time in your life for you to enjoy it to its fullest, and that is absolutely the case with The Moon Is Following Us, the collaboration between Daniel Warren Johnson & Riley Rossmo (with Mike Spicer & Rus Wooten rounding out the creative team).

This series is all about parental love & the lengths we will go for our children. The story of parents, Sam & Duncan on their quest to save their daughter Penny who is trapped within her own mind, surrounded by her dreams and nightmares.

As part of the journey, there comes a point where Sam & Duncan are presented with the opportunity to sacrifce some of their own life force to bolster the army within Penny's mind. They fully believe that if they can strengthen these forces, they can finally rescue their young daughter.

This page represents the moments where Sam & Duncan are literally having years shaved off of their own lives in a painful yet necessary process.

There are so many elements on this page that made it an easy purchase. One, the emotions of the moment on full display, the pain of the parents, the pull of their daughter, the very meaningful bridge (both in story and the real world). The bridge is a real bridge near DWJ's home, and is one that he and his family cross on their way to the park. It was on one trip home from that park where Dan's daughter took notice of the moon as they travelled home, commenting "Look, the moon is following us."

Just about everything I love about this series is represented on the page, the artistry, Penny & her parents, the moon, the bridge...and like I said before, the emotions on full display.

Yeah, comics can surprise you, and this series is proof that this medium can still provide us with new super meaningful favorites.
