It is Banned Books Week ( Oct. 5 - 11 ) so very appropriate to post Mickey from Maurice Sendak's book In the Night Kitchen ( Harper & Row, 1970 ). Despite the numerous awards the book has received - including Outstanding Children's Book of 1970 and the 1971 Caldecott Medal - the book also has the distinction of being frequently banned from libraries due to Mickey's nudity in some of the illustrations. The book ranks #5 as most banned childrens picture book and is #25 on the American Library Association's list of banned books.
