DescriptionFrom Byrne’s first run on The Sensational She-Hulk, this page is pure joy: Jennifer Walters bleary eyed at her desk, cracking wise, stepping out into the world with that trademark Byrne confidence and for f's sake that hair.You can tell Byrne was completely in love with this book, it shows in every brushstroke. You can feel him cutting loose, giving She-Hulk her own voice, witty, human, glamorous, and meta before meta became the norm. Also that bottom panel. The distracted boyfriend pose, years before the meme, straight from Byrne’s imagination. (In all likelyhood probably referenced from a memory of an Archie comic) For me, Byrne is not just a great She-Hulk artist. He is the She-Hulk artist. Nobody captured her mix of power, humor, warmth and beauty the way he did. Social/Sharing |
