I didn't know that John had such affection for this work, so do I! His love of the material and attention to detail shows in every panel. We need a great collection of this book! Thanks for sharing.
This is so badass! Chris is an AMAZING artist and is the best thing to happen to GI Joe decades. Great pickup.
I thought Darwyn's Logan was so cool and unique, this is an extremely well designed mini series..Great page.
What a great piece, Jim. Really incredible. I can't help but wonder if when working on the uber detailed background John jokingly thought 'Damn you Terry Austin!'
Great Chaykin, a titan at the top of his powers with this book. Love it.
what a beauty. great idea Daryl, impeccably executed by manix!
Amazing example from one of the greatest X-men runs of all time!
I know I said this before but i'll say it again publicly, I really appreciate you stepping aside on this one, James. I owe you one.
this is really cool, never even knew it existed! Amazing, and a fun idea for a show...
What an interesting piece of history. I long for a nice big tome of 'The art of John Byrne' with pieces like this. thanks for sharing.
It's oversized! too big for my scanner...I could scan in pieces but I'm always afraid closing the lid will damage the artwork...Photo will have to do...
Quitely is the best there ever was, This is a remarkable piece, Superman soaring over Angouleme, a real treat, and an amazingly rendered background. I really love it, you have some nice Quitely's in your collection, great pick up.
Jeff, I think of all the incredible 100% pages you’ve been posting, this one might be my absolute favorite,Daisy and John together in the club, so cool. The atmosphere, the posture, the way the scene breathes feels alive in that unmistakable Paul Pope way. It’s such a beautiful blend of grit and tenderness. This has always been my favorite Pope book, and seeing it through your posts reminds me why it resonates so much. Thank you for sharing these examples of Pope's greatness.
Wow, this is a real beauty. Incredible. I've always loved this, and Lee's first published Batman....great great piece.
This Raphael one-shot was my first-ever Turtles comic. I bought it the same day as The Dark Knight Returns #2, and to 13 year old me, it was absolutely mind-blowing. From that day on, I was completely hooked on the Turtles. Fantastic page.
This is from the first issue of x-men I picked up off the stands, starting a lifelong love affair with this team. Great pick up, pal!
Love it, Dino, Classic Superman pose, incredible artist, and a real winner all around. In case it’s helpful, I think this reference might have been what Adam had in mind for the coloring on the cover. Great addition to an amazing collection!
I’m generally hesitant to appreciate anyone inking Chaykin other than Chaykin himself, but this piece stands out as a compelling curiosity. It retains the hallmarks of Chaykin’s signature approach, his layouts and geometric figure work, yet it’s unmistakably Terry Austin at the height of his powers. While Byrne and Golden are often credited as the major stylistic influences of the late ’70s and early ’80s, one could argue that Austin’s precision and rendering style may have had an even more lasting impact, particularly on the wave of hyper-detailed artists who emerged in the late ’80s and early ’90s. A striking cover, without question.
This is a great page, McNiven's detailed and meticulously crafted pencils with Vines slick inks, make this page a home run. Backgrounds be damned to focus on the action at hand, and look at that gun! Stunning work. Great page. Also nice to be a part of the acquisition(enabler), a fun day of auction watching with friends.
Amazing, I love Batman surfing on top of the 80s Batmobile.
This page has found the right home! I'm happy you're happy pal. Enjoy the page. Beautiful beautiful Williamson inks on this one.
This piece is comics 101, detail in the foreground, less in the mid and just shapes in the bacground. Masterful. Great pickup Eric.
I picked up a couple of pages from this book earlier this year. Perez at the top of his game and having a blast. Great cover!
One of my favorite Byrne ff stories. Great splash!
Holy cow, Chris, thats quite an acquisition. Love love love this cover. Quitely put so much time, effort and love into this piece. Wonderful.
I love everything about this drawing. Opena has a beautiful mind.
Amazing and unforgettable page, George! I still remember my reaction when this first dropped, I was like wtf? It felt like a whole new direction. The combination of Buscema’s powerful storytelling with inks from legends like Janson, Williamson, and Sienkiewicz gave these pages such a distinct identity, more Conan than traditional superhero fare. It brought a rugged, timeless energy to the X-Men universe that felt both classic and radically ahead of its time. Just a killer piece. Thanks for sharing this gem!
Such a great acquisition my friend. I am equally happy and envious.
All the Mignola-isms are there, just less refined. Nice page, I love it.
I love love love this Annual, first AA I remember seeing at DC (Batman 400 may have been earlier) mind was blown. Great acquisition.
One of the best pages from this run. A real beauty and showstopper.
Great pickup, Mikail! Frank Quitely’s work on The Authority is phenomenal. I absolutely love this run, the way he handles scale, especially with the giant character, is unparalleled. The compositions, and sense of weight make him feel massive and the page has all that great Quitely detail.
Unique and style but true to character. Interesting graphically, What a beauty.
Amazing work by Travis, a real beauty. Meticulous and precise, these cap covers he did were a treasure.
I love love love this book. Art was allowed to be his art Adams-est adding all the wacky Godzilla and pop culture references, the spindly spidey and the shapely ladies. Great book, garbage coloring/printing on that annual so nice to see in b&w! Beauty of a page KG!
Bradshaw brings the power! I love his layout, rendering and cartooning in this beauty of a cover.
