Description

Here's a Rusty Riley daily I couldn't pass up when it hit the auction block recently. No horses or bodies of water, but the faces, hands, clothing, textures, staging, and inks are mesmerizing IMHO. This daily is absolutely superb for my taste. I cannot get over how unimaginably good Godwin and a couple other mid 20th Century newspaper cartoonists were, especially given that printing in those days couldn't capture anything like what scans and phone photos can now. It's like he (and David Wright, Alex Raymond, etc.) was drawing just for his own satisfaction, or with the hope that future generations of collectors and classic comic strip fans would rediscover his art decades after it saw print.
