Description

Kamen Rider, created by manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori, is a vast, pivotal, and baffling-to-outsiders tokusatsu franchise with basically numberless iterations across every conceivable media. Kamen Rider X is the third tv series, featuring the third rider (there have been hundreds of them since). It was aired in 1974 (The original Kamen Rider was 1971). Multiple Kamen Rider X manga series were published simultaneously with the TV show, as was the standard practice. This spread, according to Heritage, is from the Yuji Hosoi series that ran in Otomodachi (Friends) Magazine, from April to October 1974 (Heritage's date of 1979-80 is the only obvious mistake in the listing--that year would have been Kamen Rider Skyrider, whose costume was green and brown). X appears to be shown here delivering the famous Rider Kick, the traditional coup de grace of every Rider battle. If anyone knows who the villain is, please comment! It's pretty big for manga art, 14.5" high by 18" wide.
