Description

A Moment in the Light is a short story written by Joe Kelly and illustrated by Aron Wiesenfeld. This appeared as the second story in Gotham Knights #17.

I had not even heard of this artist until I was reading through the Batman Black and White Omnibus that my brother in law had gifted me. Upon seeing that opening title page, I JUMPED online and contacted the artist. As expected, Aron no longer had the page. It had been nearly 20 years since he painted it. I tabled my desire since it wasn't on CAF and was probably owned by a private collector. I figured this went into some black hole.

A few months pass and this shows up on my radar via a weekly Heritage Auctions, and the rest is history. The auction would not end until it was mine!

The image is stunning. The composition, the depiction of Batman, the lighting.. it is all magnificent. I particularly love images of Batman being a detective. I feel like it's a trait of his that is often overlooked.

In any case, it's a bit of a sad piece as it's a glimpse into what could have been with Aron. His art wasn't receiving the kind of reception he wanted, so he focused on pursuing oil paintings, and he has since transitioned into fine art, which is amazing in itself.

The piece is 15 inches by 20, with an image size of 12 inches by 18. It is rendered on thick heavy weight Crescent Illustration board, done with watercolor and white gouache.
