Description

This was the cover to a one-shot that tied into the 2021 Heroes Reborn event. While the Imperial Guard were based on the Legion of Super-Heroes in terms of costumes and powers, their personalities and motivations were very different. The premise of this one-shot was basically what if the Imperial Guard was really like the Legion and Hyperion was their version of Superboy. (I presume Gladiator was Mon-El in this scenario.)

I was interested in this when it first went on sale in 2021, but I was a bit hesitant based on the price. Thankfully I was able to get a nice discount by buying it a year later in the Comic Connection auction.

This is the pencil only art by Chris Sprouse. You can't see it in the scan, but Chris actually did a layout on computer first and printed it in blueline. He then penciled directly over the blueline. I assume he then made another blueline for inker Karl Story to use for the published cover (although I haven't seen the art, so I can't swear if it was inked physically or digitally).

The back of the art board has a blue line image of a Star Wars cover (not original art).
