Description

This strip has sold on Heritage three times in three years. I was an underbidder on the second sale, and picked it up this time on my second try. I can tell you this, they've skimmed their last buyer's premium off of this graphic masterwork for a while! To me it's a perfect strip, visually gorgeous and thematically emblematic of the whole series. Wash's pal Gozy, here dragging him off to the start of (presumably!) another wild episode, is actually Wash's FIRST partner in two-fisted adventure, in this, the first adventure strip, from before Captain Easy appeared to take over the role. Now settled down with wife and kids, Gozy's rebellion will fizzle out within a few strips, as his lumbago renders him helpless at freight hopping and Wash has to drag his sorry ass back to home and hearth--it's a little nostalgiac head fake from Crane, before the long, eventful story of Wash's own engagement and eventual marriage unspools. After that, Wash too will settle down as Leslie Turner and Captain Easy take over the strip, and Crane moves on to Buzz Sawyer.
