Michael Pope's Comic Art
Collecting comics and comic art has been an important part of my life. Like many I came to comic art from comics. At one point I had the highest ranked collections in the world of each of Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, Daredevil and Justice League of America. Years before that however my boss asked me to go to NYCC to pick up some books for him as well as a recreation by Shelly Moldoff. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to commission a few of my own. A few years after that a friend in life and comics (who was killed on 9/11) introduced me to Jim Calafiore from whom I got some pieces of original art. But there my modest OA collection sat silent until a few years ago. Then I decided to part with most of my comics and to ease the pain of doing so, I commissioned dozens of recreations of pages that meant the most to me in my comic collecting years. I then had each one framed and today they hang downstairs as basement art. It's no 'CAF Cave' but they are truly a sight to behold! To these I have since added selected pieces of original art. My collection is modest and in some sense primary but in these galleries you will find many of my favourite pieces of comic art. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Peace! -MP
