Description

I got to see Mark again at Wonderfest 2016 in Louisville this past weekend and was able to pick up this beauty. Mark has said that this scene, the final scene from Queen of the Black Coast, is his favorite of all the Conan stories. His preference certainly comes through in this illustration. There is not a single bit of paper left un-rendered here! Mark had the finished painting with him as well and it ranks, in my opinion, as one of his best works. This is for the wraparound cover of a role playing game manual. I don't play role playing games but I am going to have to get this just for the painted art.
As always, Mark was welcoming, gracious and a joy to talk with.

Great to see Mark revisit the brilliant, but unused, original composition for this story in the Wandering Star volume. He's kept some vital elements in the figure work while exploring a horizontal approach. Love it!
