Description

Who remembers the Ragman? Originally conceived by Joe Kubert and Robert Kanigher, Rory Regan got his powers when he was electrocuted by a cable that was used to torture his father and his father�s friends. They had stumbled into a large amount of stolen money and tried to keep the cash from the gangsters to give his son a better life. From this, the Ragman was born. Kanigher and Kubert, long time collaborators on all of the DC War books, were asked to create a new character more in line with the super hero market. I could have sworn that Ragman was a back up story to Sgt. Rock, but it turns out that he had his own book that only lasted five issues.

But, that wasn�t the end of the character. It�s been reborn a number of times, changing his costume to contain the souls of people that he had punished. Ragman now actually exists in the Arrowverse on the CW.

But, my Ragman is the original. Kubert was inked by Nester Redondo in the first four issues, but the final issue was Kubert on Kubert. I think Joe knew is was the last issue and he left it all on the field. Take a look a this double page splash and see Kubert on Kubert on a character he created. This is from Issue #5 of Ragman.

I too love the shot of Ragman and the way Kubert worked the title into the art in that bottom panel. It is just great comic book imagery. (And the origin recap is pretty spiffy as well.)

I may not remember Ragman but I know great art when I see it! A really wonderful Kubert example. Love the layout and that bottom panel. Congrats!

Ya I bought Ragman #1- #5 brand new also same as with Firestorm & Blacklighting. Loved Ragman, I wish it had lasted longer and that Jim Aparo or Michael Golden had taken it over if it continued on later. Congrads!
