Description

Ramona Fradon first attracted my attention as a comic artist with the Aquaman backup in Adventure Comics and then the wonderful Metamorpho comic. I have two pieces by her featuring Metamorpho which you can see here.

She also drew Jack Cole's Plastic Man during a brief revival in the late 70s (Plastic Man issues 11 through 20 (vol. 2) back in �76 and �77). I liked that work, too, and thought that teaming Plastic Man with S&S might be a good cover.

My art direction for this was pretty simple: I�ve often thought that PM disguised as playground equipment being used by the kids while he tries to capture the bad guys would be fun.

Scott Kress of Catskill Comics, who had previously helped us with one of the Fradon Metamorpho pieces linked above and with a Mike Grell Legion of Super-Heroes commission, still represents Ramona for commissions so Kathy reached out to him for this piece.

Kathy told me later that it came in record time - Ramona in her mid-90s is still lightning fast and very skilled. Kathy held onto it for 18 months for whatever reason, but released it from captivity this Christmas.

Scott was kind enough to have Jack Morelli to do the logo and assorted material at the top.

I'm glad to have it in my collection.
