DescriptionI was born too late to have bought the EC line of comics off of the stands, so I can only imagine what an incredible thrill that must've been.My first exposure to Al Williamson was in the pages of the Warren mags. I was floored and hooked, his work like nothing I had ever seen before. Eventually it opened that door to the whole realm of newspaper strips that was virgin territory to a kid weened almost exclusively on Marvel and DC comics. It was through Williamson that I learned of Raymond and Foster, and for an earlier generation their work epitomized the adventure strip. For "my" generation that niche was filled by Al Williamson, aided and abetted by long-time collaborator, Archie Goodwin. If you're around my age then their "Secret Agent Corrigan" and "Star Wars" strips are probably familiar to you. For younger fans, whether you have any aspirations toward working within the medium or are just looking for an engaging, skillfully rendered story you could do a LOT worse than hunting down the works of Goodwin and Williamson. Beyond their incredible strip work, their "The Empire Strikes Back", "Return of the Jedi", and "Blade Runner" are shining examples of movie adaptations done right. I won this beautiful illustration in the mid to late 90's in an on-line auction benefiting a children's hospital. Special thanks to my sweet Eenie for the assist! :-) Social/Sharing |

My first experience with Williamson was on Flash Gordon, and it remains some of my most fondly remembered art, so his run on Star Wars was quite a wish fulfillment. You've got an incredible collection and this illustration is, of course, superb.

Great cause, SUPERB work - and clearly going to one who values it! Nicely done!
