Description
Fantastic art by Caniff. On the back was a little note that says this was to be used for an article but would appear as a panel in an upcoming Steve Canyon piece. I took a quick look through the Canyon reference I have for 1950 and didn't find this panel nor a fight between the characters so I suspect this was more of a promotional piece.

Great panel! Interesting to see how he used the slighter line weight to subordinate the male character to the background and avoid a confusing jumble. And I'm surprised to learn that Caniff used such specific reference for his comic strip work. Thanks for posting this and the other reference photos
