Description

Having dialed in my collecting focus on commissions in recent years, I rarely buy preexisting art these days. I made a welcome exception for this stunning noir-inspired drawing by pinup artist Jim Silke, whose work I�ve admired for a long time.

I purchased this item directly from Jim, at Big Wow 2013. Thanks to the wonder that is Comic Art Fans, I've since learned that this piece was Jim's preliminary sketch for a gorgeous painting, which you'll find here in the collection of CAF member Wallace Harrington. You should go check it out. Seriously. It's a knockout.

According to Wally's notes, Jim's creation was based on a photograph of 1950s actress, pinup model, and Playboy Playmate (October 1958) Mara Corday. Aside from her modeling work, Ms. Corday is mostly remembered today for her starring roles in such cheese-tastic sci-fi/horror flicks as Tarantula, The Giant Claw, and The Black Scorpion.

(NOTE: My apologies for the scan cutting off the upper and lower extremes of the art, but this is an oversized piece that simply can't be scanned in one shot. At least not on my Mustek.)
