Description

Pete Alvarado did these two images for a coloring book. Crickets don't really look anything like that. I think Pete took a good five years off the Blue Fairy's age. Isn't she adorable? Pinocchio was, in my opinion, Disney's best story animation feature until Roger Rabbit. In Collodi's original story, Pinocchio was a piece of wood that came to life as Geppetto carved it. Pinocchio was so obnoxious that a crowd tore him into pieces. His publishers convinced Collodi to make a sequel which has most of what we think of a the real Pinocchio story. In both versions, the cricket gets squashed. Disney's version is more cuddly.

In an early draft, the Blue Fairy says, "I've decided to grant your wish, Geppetto, because I must grant some grown man's wish every night and tonight I want to keep my clothes on." Not really.
