I had the pleasure of meeting
Frank Stack at the 2013
Baltimore Comic-Con. Frank is one of (if not The) original comic underground artists, having self-published what could only be defined at the time as non-conforming. He doesn't do many (any?) comics conventions, but
Denis Kitchen had arranged for him to make a rare appearance at the show. Frank was a tenured professor at the University of Missouri - Columbia (Mizzou), which I attended for 2-1/2 years (before realizing I needed to actually study and get a good GPA, which led me to transfer out of the UofM system!), so we had a nice chat at the airport upon his arrival. I found him unengaged during the first day of the show and asked whether he would be interested in doing a sketch. He said he did not know any of the Marvel characters well enough to do something in the "Anything Marvel" sketchbook, but knew Superman and could do something with that -- which he did in my "Least Expected" sketchbook! Very funny (but very good, and using a unique style of crayon -- he showed me his personal sketchbook and the art, using just crayons, was amazing and worth checking out at his website!).
