DescriptionISSUE SUMMARY: Stan Lee introduces the story of an old encounter between Banshee and the White Queen. As a young girl in Manhattan, Emma Frost crashes an elite party and uses her budding telepathy to glean stock tips from the Wall Street crowd. Overusing her powers exhausts her, however, and she stumbles to the bathroom, where she meets the Hellfire Club’s Harry Leland, who offers her a ride home. Despite sensing he is dangerous, Emma accepts his offer, but falls unconscious on the bathroom floor while Leland waits outside. When she recovers, she exits the party and starts walking to a hotel room on her own, only to be harassed by a group of brutish men. She fights back, but the men chase her to an alley and knock her unconscious. Before they can do anything worse, a mysterious Beast kills them and takes their corpses, along with the unconscious Emma, into his underground lair. NYPD Detective Sean Cassidy, meanwhile, observes this interaction and follows them into the sewers. Shortly after Emma wakes up, she and the Beast who saved her make an agreement to help each other out with their problems. When Detective Cassidy arrives, however, he misinterprets what he sees and attacks the Beast. The Beast fights back and is about to kill Cassidy when Emma flexes her telepathic powers to calm down the Beast. Shortly thereafter, Detective Cassidy’s partner arrives, along with Harry Leland, and prepares to arrest Emma and the Dark Beast. Emma, assuming telepathic control of their minds, orders them to take Cassidy to the hospital instead. She and the Dark Beast then leave, agreeing to help each other get what they want in life.COMMENT: This issue is part of Marvel’s “Flashback” month of July 1997, in which many of Marvel’s ongoing books published “minus one” issues that explored some previously unrevealed story about the characters in their books. The page has an additional vellum page attached that show's Banshee's Sonic Scream. Social/Sharing |
