DescriptionCoop illustrated album covers and poster art for the surf/garage band "The Mummies". This was a piece that was to be used for either an album cover, t-shirt or concert poster for the band. Coop started it back in 1990 and for some reason the project got scrapped and this art sat in his archives for 23 years. I stumbled upon it on a visit to Coop's studio and found it was partially unfinished. Everything was completely inked except for a Mummy or two. I had Coop finish it in 2013.Coop (real name Christopher Cooper) is a famous hot rod & pinup artist. His work consists primarily of Bettie Page-style 1950s pinup girls and B-movie monsters, with the female characters often taking the role of "Devil-Women". The image most often associated with his work however is the face of a grinning devil with a smoking cigar clamped in its teeth. Coop has become popular with many bands and labels and has provided art for several Sympathy for the Record Industry releases as well as the posters for The Reverend Horton Heat, Lords of Acid, MxPx, Green Day, Nirvana, The Mummies, The Raunch Hands, Soundgarden and Foo Fighters to name just a few. Coop is an avid hot rod & Kaiju enthusiast and well known amongst the Kustom Kulture community as well as vinyl toy collectors. He’s also an accomplished erotic photographer. He released a book in 2001 called Devil's Advocate: The Art of Coop. In 2002 he released The Big Fat One, containing 1008 pages of collected sketches, and formed a collaboration with Hot Wheels to sell a series of miniature "Coop-Customized" hot rods. His next art book, Idle Hands, was published in 2012 by Baby Tattoo Books, and focuses on his fine art, dating from 2001 to 2012. In 2020 we see the release of his SKETCHBOOK 01 Collection.
