I've admired Frank Godwin for years. The man was a tremendous artist, who, for a period of time, remained largely neglected. Thankfully, he has been rediscovered in the last decade. Books, magazines, comic strips; He could do it all. The lush richness of his inkwork was fully realized in his Rusty Riley strip. This is a Sunday example from late in the run. I think the most striking thing for me, is the faces. Each is just wonderfully realized. His settings are always beautifully rendered and full of life. Godwin should always be included in any discussion concerning the greats of newspaper strips. Again, a photo due to the size if the art.
