DescriptionWhile I wish all my Wrightson purchases could be "Grails", my appreciation is for Wrightson's vision even when dealing with fun pieces intended for characters more in line with a Saturday morning kids cartoon. In this case (Thanks to Tom), I can add these characters were actually "Surfer Cat" concepts for the episode "Surfer Cats from Saturn" in the Biker Mice series. His informative email is below along with expressing the desire to post the "Change for a Dollar" short at some point!!!After verifying these were indeed drawn by Bernie, I am proud to add this to my fairly extensive collection of sketches and design concept pieces. These are especially suited for the kid in all of us! Myself, reading below... I am hoping to find the short for "Change for a Dollar" someday, as this will always be one of my favorites from the Christopher Enterprise poster days! A little history on G7: G7 Animation and Bernie Wrightson: Biker Mice to Freak Show— Several years ago an artist-run animation studio, Gang of Seven Animation, brought in legendary artist Bernie Wrightson (Swamp Thing) to produce updated character designs for the revival of Biker Mice From Mars. The creativity continued as several horror feature projects emerged: an original concept and an adaptation of Wrightson and Bruce Jones’ graphic novel, Freak Show. Bernie Wrightson and top voice talent Ian Ziering (Dancing with the Stars), Rob Paulsen (Pinky and the Brain) and Jess Harnell (Animaniacs), along with directors Tom Tataranowicz (He-Man), Rich Arons (Freakazoid!) and executive producer Ted Bather talk about the creative process of series and feature production. The presentation will include the U.S. premiere of footage from Biker Mice From Mars and the world premiere of footage from Freak Show and a short based on Wrightson’s poster Change for a Dollar. The panel will be moderated by AACC President and head of G7’s business development, David Armstrong. Update 3/30/2014: I received an very friendly and informative email from Tom (The producer of the Biker Mice series) stating: "Hi Joseph. As the Producer of the "Biker Mice" series, I can confirm that this drawing was indeed done by Bernie. They were "Surf Cats" done for the Episode: "Surfer Cats From Saturn." Bernie did lots and lots of nice work for us on the series and other projects. Someday, I may try to post the "Change For A Dollar" short on YouTube or somewhere. Tom Tataranowicz" Social/Sharing |
